After destroying the robot and seemingly defeating Robotnik, the three form a new alliance, "Team Sonic," to protect the Master Emerald from any future threats.

This attracts Dr. Robotnik, a brilliant but unhinged scientific genius, who begins a technological manhunt to capture the "blue alien." After being discovered by Tom in his shed, the two embark on a road trip to San Francisco to retrieve Sonic's lost rings. Along the way, Sonic discovers what it means to have a true friend, while Robotnik becomes obsessed with the potential of Sonic's energy.
