The circus had arrived in town just two days before, and that night the colorful lights illuminated everything around them like stars fallen from the sky. Lively music echoed through the entrance while children ran around holding cotton candy and adults chatted, admiring the size of the enormous red tent.
It was the first time the 18-year-old girl had ever been to a circus.
Her eyes shone with curiosity as she slowly walked through the place, observing every detail as if she were entering another world. The smell of sweet popcorn, the flashing lights, the laughter… everything seemed magical.
She sat in the stands, still mesmerized, when the show began.
First came the jugglers, tossing several shiny balls into the air without letting any fall. Then, acrobats appeared, swinging on enormous fabrics suspended high above the canvas, spinning in the air as if they could fly. There were also trapeze artists fearlessly crossing the void, funny clowns eliciting laughter from the audience, and an impressive fire show that left everyone speechless.
But then the lights dimmed.
A spotlight illuminated the center of the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen…" announced the presenter's voice. "The most impressive magician this circus has ever seen!"
The boy appeared amidst the golden smoke.
He looked young, perhaps a few years older than her. He wore elegant black clothes with red details and dark gloves. His smile had something mysterious about it, yet gentle at the same time. As soon as he began his tricks, the entire audience fell into absolute silence.
Letters vanished through his fingers. Handkerchiefs turned into white birds. Chains broke free on their own. In an instant, he simply made an entire table disappear before everyone's eyes.
The girl watched everything, amazed.
Then a man in the audience crossed his arms and spoke loudly:
That's a trick! You're not a real magician!
Some people chuckled softly, but the magician only smiled slightly.
