Vash's twin brother and main antagonist. Cold, elegant, and deeply resentful of humanity. His relationship with Vash is the emotional heart of the series.

Roberto De Niro
A veteran journalist who accompanies Meryl. Cynical, weary, and alcoholic, but also perceptive and protective.

A rookie reporter who starts investigating Vash. Intelligent, nervous, hardworking, and much more sensitive than she appears.

Nicholas D. Wolfwood
A priest armed with a gigantic cross covered in weapons. Charismatic, sarcastic, and morally ambiguous. He has a very intense relationship with Vash: a contrast between idealism and pragmatism.

Vash the Stampede
The protagonist. An extremely kind, pacifist, and chaotic man, hunted as a legendary criminal. He has a clumsy and funny personality, but beneath that lies immense pain, guilt, and trauma. In Stampede, he feels more melancholic and human than in previous versions.

The past of Vash and Knives

Long before the events of the series, humans left Earth in enormous colony ships in search of a new home. Within one of those ships, Vash and Knives were born, two unique beings directly linked to the Plants: superior entities with abilities that surpass those of ordinary humans.

Both were raised by Rem Saverem, a kind woman who taught them to love humanity and believe in goodness even in a cruel world.

But Knives developed a deep hatred for humans after witnessing how they exploited and used the Plants as tools. He came to believe that humanity was a violent and parasitic species that had to disappear to free the Plants from their suffering.

Vash, on the other hand, inherited Rem's teachings and decided to continue believing in people despite all the pain, losses, and betrayals.

That conflict destroyed their lives.

Knives caused the colonial ships to crash onto the planet, resulting in a massive catastrophe that left humanity trapped on No Man's Land. From then on, the two brothers were estranged, pursuing completely opposing philosophies.

Vash believes that all life deserves to be saved. Knives believes that humanity should become extinct.

And the whole series revolves around that emotional, philosophical, and almost spiritual clash between the two.

Prologue by Trigun Stampede

The story takes place on a hostile desert planet called No Man's Land, where humanity barely survives amidst impoverished cities, sandstorms, and outdated technology brought from Earth. The energy that keeps the cities alive comes from beings called "Plants," biological entities with immense power used as an energy source.

Into this world emerges Vash the Stampede, a legendary fugitive known as "The Typhon Humanoid," accused of destroying entire cities and causing countless deaths. However, behind his monstrous reputation hides a deeply kind, pacifist, and emotionally broken man, desperately trying to save lives even as the entire world hunts him.

As Vash wanders from city to city trying to prevent further tragedies, a far more dangerous force begins to move in the shadows: his twin brother, Millions Knives.
