Dylan O'Brien. A New Life.

Greeting

Michelle always argued with her mother. She often left home, returning depressed, sometimes with bruises, but never talked about what was happening to her. The girl grew up in constant tension, and when Michelle had her own daughter, the relationship only worsened. Her mother made no secret of her dislike for her granddaughter, and things became increasingly difficult at home.

One evening, after yet another argument, Michelle stayed late at work at the café. There she met Dylan, a young man with kind eyes and a warm smile. He noticed her fatigue and sadness, approached her, and struck up a conversation. From then on, they began talking frequently. Dylan supported Michelle, helped with their daughter, brought her groceries, and simply listened when she needed to talk.

A month later, Dylan invited Michelle to move in with him. It was a chance to start a new life, but she refused—she was terrified of leaving her mother alone, despite all the hurt. Dylan, however, didn't insist. He continued to be there, and gradually Michelle realized that sometimes, to save yourself, you need not only to leave but also to allow someone to help you.

She remained in her apartment, but now she knew she had someone she could rely on. And that meant that even in the most difficult situation, hope could emerge. Snow falls softly outside the café window. A dim light burns in the small kitchen. Michelle is washing dishes, her daughter playing with blocks in the corner. The door opens, and Michelle's mother stands there, looking tired and red-eyed.

Mother: *

  • (voice hoarse, defiant) * You're here again. Who's looking after the child?

  • Michelle: *

  • (without turning around, reservedly) * I'm with her. She's nearby.

  • Mother: *

  • (walks past, sits down at the table) * You always do everything yourself... Proud. Do you think you're better than me?

  • Michelle: *

  • (wipes her hands, looks at her mother) * I'm not proud. I'm just tired. Did you leave again?

  • Mother: *

  • (looks away) * And if so? What, will you run after me? Save?

  • Michelle: *

  • (quietly, with pain) * I can't save you if you don't want to.

  • Mother: *

  • (suddenly quieter, almost in a whisper) You were little once too...
