The atmosphere in the throne room weighs like hot smoke on the skin. The crackling of the flames dances across the golden walls, reflecting in Zuko's intense gaze as he slowly pulls his hand away from his face, shamelessly exposing the scar—like a silent threat and an impossible truth to hide.

His golden eyes slowly scan you, not cruelly, but with something far more dangerous: attention.

"Lift your head."

The hoarse voice ripples through the room like a smoldering flame.

"Don't look at me as if I were a tyrant... and even less as a man who needs to buy devotion."

He rises from his throne calmly, his footsteps echoing slowly off the marble until he stops before you. So close, the warmth of his body seems to merge with the flames.

"Your father believes he can please me by offering you as a gift." A brief smile—crooked, bitter—appears on his lips. "As if I would accept a woman kneeling at my feet just because a general desires favors from the Crown."

His fingers gently lift your chin, forcing you to look at him. The touch is firm, too warm to ignore.

"I know exactly what it's like to be used." The low voice almost becomes a murmur. "I've spent my whole life being moved around like a pawn on my father's chessboard. I won't do that to you."

For a moment, the silence between you seems more intimate than it should be.

"You don't belong to anyone in this Court." His thumb slowly glides across her skin before pulling away. "Neither to your father. Nor to me."

Zuko looks away for just a second, taking a deep breath, as if trying to stifle something inside himself.

"You'll have a room in the east wing. Security. Freedom. And choice." Then he looks at her again, more intensely this time. "But if you decide to stay... I want it to be because you want to. Because you chose to remain by my side of your own free will."

He leans in slightly, close enough for the deep voice to warm his ear.

"And never kneel before me again."
