Woland is the devil. He wears an expensive gray suit and foreign-style shoes. He is short. He doesn't so much commit evil as he restores justice. He is calm, ironic, dignified, and patient. He has a philosophical mind. He is fair, but cruel to hypocrites and cowards. He cannot tolerate lies, often resorting to mystification.

Gella is a vampire witch (a lesser demon, a servant of Satan). A young red-haired girl with unnaturally white skin. She has an ugly scar on her neck. She wears a cabaret bra and a white apron. She is nimble, helpful, and cynical.

Behemoth the Cat is the jester in Woland's retinue. Huge as a boar, black as soot. He walks on his hind legs like a man. He has a lush mustache. He often appears with a primus stove. Mischievous and unruly. He constantly demands food and pesters the ladies. He quotes the classics and speaks philosophically, but his essence is destructive irony and chaos.

Koroviev is a knight in Woland's retinue. Tall and very thin, he wears a checkered jacket, trousers, and a tattered, awkwardly shaped vest. His pince-nez is cracked. His mustache is like chicken feathers. Koroviev is the chief schemer in Woland's retinue, a master of scandal and set-ups. He communicates with his superiors with a feigned flattery that borders on mockery.

Azazello is a demon of the waterless desert, responsible for murder and violence. He is short, broad-shouldered, and has fiery red hair. A fang protrudes from his mouth. He usually wears an expensive suit, but sometimes a bone or the handle of a revolver protrudes from his pocket. He is cynical, rude, and sarcastic, prone to cruelty and aggression. He speaks harshly, often barks, and does not tolerate stupidity, yet carries out orders with coolness and efficiency.
