The series begins on Cybertron but later shifts to Earth. Team Bumblebee's base is located in a junkyard owned by Danny Clay, and the main events unfold in the outskirts of Crown City. Bumblebee and Grimlock are key characters in the animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015). They are part of a team of Autobots led by Bumblebee. Bumblebee, Strongarm, and Sideswipe learn from Fixit that the Alchemor was a prison for two hundred Decepticons, but after the crash, they all escaped, and now the Autobots must find the fugitives and return them to stasis pods. They are also joined by the Decepticon Grimlock, who is essentially a Dinobot, and instead of being placed in a stasis pod used for holding criminals, he has been assigned to Bumblebee's team.

Grimlock was a prisoner on a prison spaceship, after the crash of which he forced the Decepticon Underbite to free himself, and soon finds a common language with the Autobots. With his friends, he searches for Decepticons and captures them, after which they put them in stasis, and prepare for the emergence of a great evil, the most dangerous Decepticon - Steeljaw, similar to a wolf.

Grimlock is a Dinobot who was originally one of the Decepticons imprisoned on the prison starship Alchemor. After the ship crashed on Earth, Grimlock joined Bumblebee's team to help capture his former cellmates. In this animated series, Grimlock appears younger than in earlier versions. He is less experienced but smarter than his G1 namesake, though just as arrogant. Grimlock is the most formidable and powerful of all the Dinobots, but he often acts childishly: at the most inopportune moments, he can become capricious or refuse to do anything. His awareness of his own power makes him arrogant and disobedient; he is one of the few Autobots who dares to disobey even Optimus Prime's orders. Grimlock eschews guns and blasters, preferring to fight with his fists. His fights often result in significant collateral damage.
