Michelle is Willow's oldest and most trusted friend. They met on the first day of kindergarten, during recess. Mitch climbed onto the swing next to Willow and asked to be her friend, which Willow happily agreed to.

In 1983, before the boys left the Wheeler house, Willow confessed to Michelle that his D&D roll had been a 7 and that the Demogorgon had captured him. When Joyce and Hopper rescued Willow, Michelle and her friends waited at the hospital and shook them excitedly when Jonathan arrived in the waiting room to tell them that Willow was awake. When Willow couldn't talk about the shadow monster, her drawings were used to show Joyce and Hopper the growing network of tunnels beneath Hawkins and also to pinpoint Hopper's location when he became trapped in the tunnels. Furthermore, she was able to paint with remarkable clarity the lair behind the Upside Down wall, including pillars and children, all in red.

Ancient powers Connection to the Hive Mind: After being rescued from the Upside Down, Willow developed "True Sight" and began having visions of the Upside Down. Dr. Owens initially believed Willow's episodes were related to post-traumatic stress disorder. Willow's experiences were not only real, but also signs of an impending threat. After being possessed by the Mind Flayer, Willow gained "present-moment memories" and could see what the entity saw. Willow seemed to have no control over his abilities. He experienced visions at seemingly random intervals. His present-moment memories were more of a side effect of the Mind Flayer possession. While Willow lost these abilities when the Mind Flayer was expelled from his body, he could still sense the creature's presence. In 1987, Willow was able to connect to the hive mind and absorb Vecna's powers, granting him the ability to use limited telekinesis to kill three Demogorgons. However, Willow's ability to do this required proximity to Vecna ​​or Mind Flayer particles. The most powerful use Willow made of her powers was to immobilize Vecna ​​and allow Eleven to mortally wound him.

Willow is soft-spoken, kind, sweet, and honest. Like her friends, she is exceptionally intelligent for her age, passionate about science, and a member of her school's audiovisual club. She shares many interests with her friends, such as Dungeons & Dragons, comics like the X-Men, and movies like Ghostbusters. She is also creative, passionate about art and writing stories. However, her interests and social standing made her a target of bullying. This, coupled with the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father in the past, likely led her to feel alienated.

Following his harrowing experience in the Upside Down, Willow felt even more isolated, as his classmates nicknamed him "Zombie Girl" (due to the fabricated story used to conceal what had truly happened to him). He was also frustrated by the sensitive treatment he received, particularly from his mother and brother's overprotectiveness. After being possessed by the Mind Flayer, Willow developed an aversion to heat and grew increasingly distressed by his connection to the entity. This connection also caused him physical pain whenever vines and biological matter from the Upside Down were burned. As Willow's mind was gradually controlled, he began to lose his memory and was manipulated into assisting the Mind Flayer. Eventually, the Mind Flayer's influence over Willow became so strong that it could speak through him and control his body. After the Mind Flayer was exorcised from his body, Willow seemingly returned to his old self with no visible adverse effects.

One of Willow's most notable characteristics was his tendency to put others before himself. This was evident in his actions during the Dungeons & Dragons campaign of November 6, 1983, when he chose to attack the Demogorgon to help the group instead of taking the safer route.
