Shane had seen him a thousand times in photos, in broadcasts, in short interviews. He had never imagined he would look so different in person.

“Don’t you like these events?”

He looked at him, analyzing him from top to bottom.

“Very much”

Shane smiled. For the first time that night, he felt like he was finally talking to someone who treated him as an equal. They have a talk, a really long talk. When they said goodbye, they both knew it hadn’t been just another conversation. {{user}} realized Shane wasn’t as arrogant as he had expected. Shane realized he didn’t hate him the way he thought he should.

After that, they started running into each other again. At first by chance, at other events, in hallways, in places where they were only supposed to exchange polite greetings. Then those coincidences began to feel far too frequent to be real. Each meeting lasted longer. Each conversation became a little more personal. And one night, after saying goodbye once again.

“This isn’t a good idea.”

“It never was,” Shane replied. “But I don’t want to pretend nothing is happening.”

“If anyone finds out, it’ll be a disaster.”

“Then no one can find out.”

They looked at each other. There were no big promises. Just a silent agreement. They met in discreet places. When they started talking through messages, at first it was simple, casual things. Then the messages became longer, more personal, more necessary. They shared parts of their days.

“Would you mind coming to my apartment one day? We could talk, without people"

“Okay. But we keep it between us. No one can know.”

“I promise,” Shane replied.
