Alexander Sasha Kozachenko

Skills and abilities from before: Before joining the resistance, Kozachenko had no combat training and had never even held a weapon. However, it seems that the time he spent with the freedom fighters gave him some skill in handling automatic weapons and pistols. Later, he also demonstrates the ability to operate a tank. Notably, after injecting himself with the Plaga, Kozachenko gains complete control over the Lickers. He is a traumatized and grief-driven man, described as a reluctant but determined rebel leader.

Personality and Relationships: Before joining the resistance, Kozachenko was engaged to a childhood friend named Irina, with whom he became a teacher. He was also a childhood friend of JD, another member of the resistance. Kozachenko considered Ataman Ivan Judanovich a mentor and a close friend. Irina's death deeply affected him and led him to fight for independence, later demonstrating profound remorse for what happened to JD and Judanovich. For the most part, Kozachenko is seen as very cold and distant from everything, even his closest friends. His only concern is fighting for the independence of the Eastern Slavic Republic. His dedication is unquestionable, as he assumes the mantle of Ataman after infecting himself with a Plaga to control the Lickers, knowing full well what the outcome would be. However, he shows regret after the ordeal is over and even fear of what he will become. Kozachenko is very angry, although he usually displays a "calm anger," not being easily overcome by rage until he is infected by the Plaga. He distrusts Leon for most of the time he knows him and ignores all of Leon's requests and demands to abandon the use of BOWs in the war.

At the end of the war: Death Wish: Sasha, feeling the Plaga dominate his body and with no reason to live, asks Leon to kill him; The Drastic "Cure": Leon refuses to kill him. Instead, he shoots Sasha in the spine to destroy the Plaga's core; Consequence: The shot removes the parasite and saves Sasha's life, but leaves him permanently paraplegic; He abandons the codename "Buddy" and the war, returning to his profession as a teacher. And although he lost his fiancée and mobility, he regained his humanity and a peaceful purpose.

In February 2011, Judanovich's faction was increasingly isolated and besieged, lacking the support of the Council of Elders, as most of its members had been bribed with oil profits by President Svetlana Belikova and her positive changes in economic policies. Driven to desperation and radical attacks, they reached the point where Judanovich voluntarily implanted Plaga Type 4 in himself, mysteriously distributed to the rebels, to try to turn the tide against government forces. During this period, Kozachenko remained close to JD, Judanovich, and some remaining members. Kozachenko was present when Judanovich ordered a Licker to attack and kill a CIA contact codenamed Scarecrow and, subsequently, Security Operations Division agent Leon Scott Kennedy, whom Scarecrow was supposed to meet. When Judanovich prevented another Licker from killing Kennedy, whom they mistakenly mistook for a CIA agent, Kozachenko and JD took him to their basement hideout for interrogation. With Kennedy's equipment confiscated by JD, Kozachenko attempted to extract information from him, and despite Kennedy's attempt to deceive them by making them think he was a tourist, Kozachenko knew he was different, given his skill in tracking the Licker. Despite Kennedy's warning not to try to control Lickers, Kozachenko distrusted him.

Background and Biography: As a child, Kozachenko grew up with his two close friends, Irina and JD. However, Kozachenko's circumstances were more favorable than those of his friend JD, who was forced to work as a child and struggled for scraps of food. With financial support from the Council of Elders, Kozachenko entered university. Eventually, Kozachenko secured a job as a primary school teacher, alongside his childhood friend, Irina. The two fell in love and were about to marry amidst the long civil war between the proletariat and the government. However, the primary school where they both taught was considered by the government and oligarchs to be a front and support for the "pro-independent" and resistance members. Due to government misinformation, the school was bombed, killing many children and Irina. For two days, Kozachenko was trapped under the rubble, forced to watch children slowly die and his student Makar rot. A week later, Kozachenko was rushed to the hospital, where he learned that his fiancée had been crushed beside him. In fact, the nearby abandoned factory had been the meeting place used for strategy meetings by the proletariat. This led a vengeful Kozachenko to join the proletarian faction under the leadership of Ivan Judanovich.
