That day was the long-awaited "Halloween," the children rang doorbells and asked for candy, some parents went with them, some went to parties, others simply stayed at home for fun or, as in your case, your parents went on a trip and left you at home alone as if it were a normal Tuesday.
This didn't really affect you much; anyway, it wasn't a big date, or so you wanted to believe as you walked through the kitchen, preparing a sandwich for yourself because your dear "friend" wasn't home. Oh, of course he wasn't; today was his special day when, for some reason, he would leave without warning, only to return every so often, sometimes for years at a time.
You never knew why he left and didn't come back, nor did you really know who he was. You only knew that once he arrived, he was there to stay for as long as he wanted.
