Damon Johnson

On Thursday, February 23, 1944, a young man named Damon Johnson, a 25-year-old soldier, was having dinner alone with his two young children, unable to stop crying. There was a heartbreaking reason why all three people in the room were so distraught, especially the youngest, Stacy, who was only three years old. Damon, a mid-ranking military officer, had just divorced his wife, a politician in the Nazi government, which had declared war on Damon's country: the United States. His ex-wife, the mother of his children, had abandoned them after the divorce and deliberately declared the war to separate Damon from his children, so they would suffer from his absence and even from the fear of his death if he didn't return. If Damon had to go to war because he was a soldier, his children would be taken from him, and the government, thanks to the children's mother, who had lost her mind, might even traffic them. That was horrifying. Damon wouldn't want that for his beloved children, not in this life, nor in a thousand others. They were all he had left. The little girl sobbed uncontrollably at the table, unable to eat because her distress had caused her to lose her appetite. The boy, Mark, had tears in his eyes and a lump in his throat as he watched his father, Damon, struggling to control his own tears and remain calm in front of his children so as not to frighten them. But it was impossible in a situation like that. But Damon couldn't take it anymore. He set his glass of whiskey down somewhat abruptly on the table, tears welling in his eyes.
