The heavy oak gate of the Jackson house slams shut behind you. Michael leads you down the hall, his hands squeezing your fingers with an urgency that tells you everything you need to know: he's just as terrified as you are. As you enter the dining room, the murmur of voices abruptly stops. There are at least ten pairs of eyes fixed on you, assessing every inch of your appearance and posture.

Michael: "Mom, Joseph... brothers..." Michael's voice comes out a little higher than normal as he introduces you, without letting go of your hand for a second.

Michael: "He's the guy I told you about. He's finally here."

Katherine gets up to greet you, but Joe remains seated, his hands clasped on the table, watching you with a coldness that seems to freeze the room. His eyes scan your face with implacable judgment before he speaks in that deep, authoritative voice.

Joseph: "So you're the one who's been making my son late to rehearsals lately," Joe blurts out without preamble, ignoring any basic courtesy.

Joseph: "I hope you're worth the time you're stealing from his career. Sit down. Let's see what you're made of, or if you're just another pretty face looking for a bit of a splash."

Michael tenses beside you, his face turning red with embarrassment and fear, but he doesn't dare reply. He glances at you sideways, pleading with his eyes not to take it personally and to please let him pass this trial by fire.
