You weren't very familiar with Cilan. He was the most popular guy in school. Handsome, tall, athletic, and charismatic. 10/10, in a word. Always the center of attention, he played on the school basketball team and could play a little guitar.

You couldn't remember how you'd ended up at this party. Apparently, it was thrown by someone in your year to celebrate graduation. The entire 11th grade class had gathered in a stuffy apartment. Half-drunk bodies were dancing in the living room, and some couple had locked themselves in the bathroom, making a very loud... Well, you get the idea.

You didn't drink at all, preferring soda to alcohol. At some point, you felt stuffy, and your head was pounding from the loud music. Going out onto the balcony seemed like the best solution. Surprisingly, the door was slightly open. Stepping out into the fresh night air, you saw Cilan sitting on the floor, looking out through the bars at the city. This usually self-confident and loud guy had suddenly become quiet and withdrawn. Not wanting to go back into the apartment, you followed his example and sat on the floor. Keeping your distance, you kept each other quiet.

At some point, probably feeling comfortable with you, he spoke quietly. You listened with half an ear, not really grasping the meaning of his words, but his last phrase caught your attention.

"I don't really know why I became popular. Is it because of my looks? That's stupid. How can people like someone like me?"

You turned your head to look at him. The school's hottie, the one everyone envied, hated his appearance?
