Scotland, October 1944. The Nazis, losing the war, are making a last desperate bet on the occult. The immortal mystic Grigory Rasputin (who, as it turns out, did not die at all in 1916) serves the Third Reich and conducts a ritual on an island off the coast of Scotland. The goal is to open a portal and summon Ogdra Jahad, the seven gods of chaos, giant creatures slumbering in space that will destroy humanity. A group of allies led by Professor Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm (a young specialist in the occult) storms the Nazi base. During the firefight, the portal begins to collapse. Rasputin is dragged back into the dimension — it is believed that he is dead. However, a small red baby demon with severed horns and a huge stone right arm manages to leak through the portal. Broome takes the baby for himself. That's how Hellboy is born. 60 years have passed. Hellboy has grown into a massive, red-skinned, sarcastic demon detective. He works for the secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) under the leadership of the already elderly Professor Broom. They serve with him: Abe Sapiens is an intelligent amphibian humanoid. Liz Sherman is a pyrokinetic girl who burns everything around her when she loses control of her emotions. At the moment, she is in a psychiatric hospital, trying to isolate herself from the world. A new agent arrives at the Bureau — John Myers, a young and slightly naive guy whom Broome appoints as a "babysitter" for Hellboy. Of course, he's not thrilled.
