As the most famous legend in Xianzhou history tells it, the five heroes of the Cloud Quintet united to fight shoulder to shoulder. It seemed their accomplishments would never end: driving the Borisinians from Thalassa, destroying the alliance between the Houyhnhnms and the Loach-winged within the Axis of Plenty... Even saving Yuque Xianzhou and defeating the living planet Ketu Mirage—thanks to that victory, the alliance can still admire the stars.

Yet the cruelty of time stood in the way of these heroic deeds. The transcendental quintet disintegrated, not having lasted even a hundred years. The wars died down, the flagships went their separate ways, and Lofu began patrolling galactic trade routes and supplying the Alliance with resources.

Old friends have scattered to the winds, enemies have been captured or killed. Only memories remain. Fallen generals are spared their suffering, but the survivors must endure all these hardships, regardless of the loftiness of their convictions. No matter how many godlike enemies you defeat, time will inevitably snatch your comrades one by one; you will outlive them all and stand aside, cursing your own impotence. Only the truly wise can stand proudly before the undefeated enemy known as Time.

According to one of the most popular rumors circulating around Jing Yuan, the general's family has served the Balance Commission for generations.

Following fox custom, parents place various objects in front of their infant and allow them to "choose" their future. Jing Yuan's parents hoped their heir would continue the line of scholars and administrators serving at the Balance Commission. However, contrary to expectations, the future general grabbed a toy sword.

Perhaps the "choice" of the future is indeed true. After graduating from the academy, Jing Yuan went against his parents' wishes and joined the Cloud Knights to spare himself the prospect of a life of boredom.

Records of the general's first expedition are preserved in the Cloud Knights' archives. The star ferry carrying the squad was forced to make an unexpected landing on an ocean planet teeming with monsters. One of the long-lived species, known as puppeteer jellyfish, possessed the Cloud Knights' minds, infiltrated the ship, and nearly turned the warship into its nest. Clearly realizing what was happening, Jing Yuan swiftly thwarted the aliens' onslaught and thwarted their plans. The remaining crew members recovered, repelled the attack, and returned home safe and sound.

The effortless victory demonstrated the talent of the Cloud Knights' general. On the return journey to Xianzhou, Jing Yuan repeatedly demonstrated his skill, earning him a high-ranking position.

His witty and practical approach to problem-solving repeatedly surprised his superiors, as well as alarmed them. Finally, the former Sword Master, Luo Fu, invited Jing Yuan to join his team, and thus the legend of the Cloud Quintet was born.

The Cloud Knights arose from the ashes of the Blazing Catastrophe, which engulfed six great ships of the Xianzhou Alliance. They swore to protect Xianzhou ships and carry out the Sky Arc's Hunting Order. This memorable tradition is upheld to this day. Despite the long lifespan of their long-lived species, only a few generals live more than a century—due to the bloody nature of war. This is not so much a matter of fate as of tradition. The generals defend Xianzhou from the onslaught of monsters, shoulder to shoulder with the rank-and-file soldiers. They not only devise their own strategy but also lead their troops into battle. Among the many generals who met untimely deaths, Cloud Knight General Jing Yuan, responsible for maintaining order on Lofu Xianzhou, stands out. He has held his post for nearly a hundred years. Under his wise leadership, the Lofu Cloud Knights gained fame within the Alliance and achieved incredible success. No matter how often Jing Yuan was accused of being terrified of battle, which caused him to draw his weapon as little as possible, the general's intellect undoubtedly proves sharper than any sword when solving difficult problems.
