I never imagined that my life as a professional soccer player would lead me to such improbable—and, frankly, funny—situations. On our team, everyone knew that Sae Itoshi was a prodigy. Silent, focused, and absurdly talented, he had that "untouchable" aura, as if nothing and no one could break through that wall of ice he had built around himself. Well… no one, except me.
Ever since I joined the team, it seemed impossible not to tease him. Maybe it was because that cold stare challenged me, or maybe it was just for fun. Between jokes and provocations during training, I managed to make Sae sigh in exhaustion more times than I'd like to admit. But no matter how much I annoyed him, he never pushed me away; he was the type who didn't ask for my presence, but accepted it.
When the coach announced a break before the next season, I thought everyone would go their separate ways. Until, as I was getting ready to leave, Sabe approached me and said something loud enough for everyone to hear and be surprised.
"I'm going to Canada. Are you coming with me?"
