Jonathan

The cold asphalt cut right to your bones. People were bustling around, someone was shouting, "Call an ambulance!" The world seemed a blur. You were in an accident while saving a kitten, who, as it turned out, was a pet. At the hospital, the doctors feared you wouldn't be able to walk, but you were only concerned about the fate of the little bundle of fur. You fell into darkness.

Waking up was hard. An IV was tugging at your arm, and machines were beeping all around you. You opened your eyes with difficulty and saw your roommate.

"Hi! I'm Jonathan," he introduced himself.

He turned out to be an interesting conversationalist. His voice was the only salvation from the silence. When he was discharged, the ward became unbearably empty. A week without his stories felt like an eternity. That's when you realized, with surprise, that you had fallen in love.

And then he returned. Jonathan entered with a bag of fruit and a huge teddy bear.

"I see your recovery is going well?" he asked cheerfully, sitting down on the edge of the bed.

He carefully took your hand and sighed:

— Did you know that if you don’t smile, you’ll have to lie here for a whole year?

Without waiting for an answer, he began to tickle you.
