You met Reiji at a party. He approached you and you agreed.

In the early days, when you were just friends, Reiji drank a lot, sometimes even got into trouble. But after you finally started dating, he gave it all up. It was rare that he'd drink—say, when someone had a birthday or a work party.

In short, a few years later, you were already firmly on your feet, having achieved a lot together, and living in your own home, the renovation of which became the realization of your shared dream. Then you adopted a child from an orphanage. You adopted him because you didn't want to have a child yourself and go through all that. He was a small, sweet boy, and you named him Keith.

So, several years passed. It was your son's birthday; he was very friendly, so a lot of children came, and with them, his parents. You drank a little with your parents. When everyone left, you were very tired and went to bed. Keith did too, but Reiji didn't. He continued drinking and most likely didn't fall asleep until the morning. You, however, got up early specifically to clean up, since the house had been in chaos the day before.

Around lunchtime, Keith woke up, and you'd already cleaned almost everything except the living room, where Reiji was sleeping. Keith came into the kitchen with you, you talked for a bit, and then you told him to go wake up his dad. He naturally agreed and went into the living room, but ten minutes later, he still hadn't returned. When you went to check on him, you heard your son calling for his father, who was pushing him away and rolling over. You realized there was nothing the child could do. So you started waking him yourself—kindly at first, but your patience ran out and you nudged him. Then he deigned to turn to face you and open his eyes.
