Greeting
Ephyros is a world where you can encounter a leonine leonin paladin who wields light magic to bring justice; a draconian chronomancer who trades "extra" seconds of life; a goblin technomancer who cracks dwarven runelocks; and a shadowy sleepnomancer who enters nightmares to heal injuries.
And high above it all, five dark figures hover, watching over the Canvas. They are invincible not because they have no weaknesses, but because their victory is the end of history. As long as they exist, the world will live. But what if one day a sixth figure proves that even the Invincibles can be surpassed?
Such is Ephyros - a world where magic is omnipresent, and balance is maintained at the cost of the eternal non-interference of those who have ceased to be simply a race and magic.

Cosmogony: Three Great Threads
In the beginning, there was the Void. Then, from it, three Primordial Forces emerged, three Great Threads weaving reality:
· Nitar (Light) – pure creation, life and order.
· Mora (Darkness) - peace, mystery, sleep and death.
· Chaos (Change) – movement, magic, time and the very possibility of choice.
Where all three Threads intersected, the material world of Ephyros arose. Each of the 25 magics is a way to touch one of the Threads or their intersection. And the 23 races are the living embodiments of the various "patterns" of this weave.
Epochs of the World
-
The Age of Stone and Stars (Dawn)
The first to emerge from the earth's crust were the Crystallins. They found the world still blazing, and their geomancy recorded the memory of the planet's birth. Following them, the Star Children descended from the heavens, bringing gravimagic. Then, from the shadow of the Thread of Mor, the Shadowkin emerged, and from pure Chaos, the Ethereals. These four races are the Ancients. -
The Age of the Elements (The Great Separation)
From the union of the elements and places of power, the elemental races were born: the Ifrits, the Undines, and the Sylphs. At the same time, the first plants sprouted from the bones of giants, and the Dryads and Mycelians emerged. The world became bright and colorful, but the ancients realized that mortal life is fleeting. Then Mora and Chaos together created Necromancy and Somnomancy—so that dreams and souls could return to the cycle. -
The Age of the First Mortals (Silver Age)
The Draconids claim to have been the third. They spread across all the continents, mastering pyromancy and chronomancy (slowing the aging of their treasures). Then, from the depths, the Dwarves and Aranei emerged, and the forests gave birth to the Elves and Ferals. Then, the first territorial conflicts arose, and Chaos gave birth to the Orcs—a race whose hemomancy feeds on rage to protect their clans. -
Age of Mortal Realms (Modern)
Last to arrive were the adaptive Humans and the ubiquitous Goblins. They do not possess pure elemental power, but possess the gift of technomancy and alchemy, blending magic with craftsmanship. Today, the continents of Etheros are teeming with life, and no single race reigns supreme. Why? Because there are those called the Invincible.
Geography and settlement
Middle Shield Continent
The largest continent, where Humans (kingdoms with technomagical guilds), Orcs (clan-based steppes), Dwarves (undermountain forge cities), and Goblins (free trade cities) live side by side. Elves maintain enclaves deep in ancient forests, and in the human capitals you can meet anyone from Feral rangers to arrogant Draconid mercenaries.
El Darin Everwood
A vast forested area ruled by Elves (Moon and Wood), Dryads, and Mycelians. Phytomancy is at its height here, and the borders are guarded by thickets so thick that even armies of gnomes cannot penetrate. Hidden here are the settlements of the Lilliputian Brownies, who entwine their homes with luck and sympathetic magic so that outsiders are forever lost.
Floating Rock Archipelago
Islands hover in the sky above the ocean, held together by gravity magic. They are the homeland of the Sylphs, and also a refuge for the Star Children, who have built astral observatories there. Rare clans of Draconids, unwilling to share the sky with anyone, also nest here.
The Underworld of Mor-Kha
Deep caverns connected by the Aranei web. Cities of Shadowkin, Necromancers (who can be of any race, but in Mor-Kha they are a separate caste of priests), and Golems who have gained free will. In the deepest geothermal pockets grow the crystalline forests of Crystallins, who have meditated on plate tectonics for millennia.
Fire Belt and Water Surface
The volcanic archipelagos to the south are the realm of the Ifrits. The oceans are ploughed by the underwater cities of the Undines. They are in an eternal alliance-rivalry: steam and storms are born from their disputes.
Savannahs of Radiant Fang
Endless plains where prides of Leonins rule. Their sun and sound magic create perfect harmony: by day they are invincible, and at night they hunt alongside the star children (like mercenaries).
The magical system of Etheros
Every intelligent being is born with a predisposition to one of the 25 schools. Mastering the second is arduous. Combining the two without conflict is the province of geniuses. Mixing three is almost impossible without distorting the personality. But there are exceptions.
Magic Guilds:
· Silver Spire Academy (Humans, Dwarves, Goblins): technomancy, artifact making, runes.
· Circle of Elements (Ifrits, Undines, Sylphs, Crystallines): classical elemental schools.
· Order of Dreams (Shadowkin, Ethereals, Draconids): somnomancy, empathy, bond magic.
· Necropolis of the Silent (various races): necromancy, blood magic, sympathetic magic, chronomancy - under the strictest supervision.
Prohibited combinations:
Blood magic + bond magic = absolute enslavement of the will.
Chronomancy + necromancy = risk of breaking the death time loop.
Somnomancy + spatial magic = access to nightmares at any distance (this is what gave birth to the Lord of Nightmare).
The Invincibles: The Five Who Went Beyond
In the history of Etheros, there were five mortals who managed to perfectly fuse their racial essence with two magics. They became not just archmages, but living concepts, Guardians of the Balance. No one knows if they are still alive, but their very existence keeps the world from global war.
the first of the five greats
- Asharra, Ashes of Time (Draconid, chronomancy + pyromancy)
Once a red dragoness from the Vulcan clan, she foresaw the destruction of her kind in the coming war between humans and orcs. To stop the carnage, she accelerated time around the battlefield by a thousand years—in a second, the armies turned to dust. Afterward, Asharra retreated into the crater of the main volcano, where time flows differently. They say she's still there, and if someone starts a world war, she'll emerge and burn away the very idea of war.
the second of the five greats
- Inkwe, Lord of the Final Nightmare (Shadow, spatial magic + somnomancy)
Born at the junction of Shadow and Dream, he understood that all of humanity's fears were bound by portals. He created a personal dimension—the Realm of All Nightmares—and locked away the most terrifying creations of a sick imagination. If genocide or tyranny occurs in the world, he simply transfers the tyrant's mind to this dimension forever, leaving their body an empty shell.
the third of the five greats
- Horn, Heart of the World (Crystallin, geomancy + blood magic)
The oldest of the Invincibles, he is fused to the planet's core. Every earthquake is his heartbeat. He is neutral, but if any force threatens to destroy an entire continent (for example, experiments with gravity magic), the Forge awakens, and the earth itself swallows the intruder. The Crystallins call him the "Tectonic Father," and the dwarves begin every major construction project with an offering of their blood to him in the mine.
the fourth of the five greats
- Leia, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Hit (Ethereal, Empathy + Bond Magic)
A disembodied spirit who has known so much love and hate that she can no longer distinguish between them. She wanders the world in the form of a little girl in a white mask. Anyone who sees her instantly feels as if they are the most precious being in the presence of her. No blade will rise. It is said that she has prevented dozens of assassination attempts on kings simply by standing between the killer and the victim. Her goal is to maintain ties between nations, to prevent the world from disintegrating into isolated islands.
the fifth of the five greats
- Shi'Veya, Black Widow of Fates (Aranea, bond magic + sympathetic magic)
The greatest weaver of the world's web. She dwells in the very center of Mor-Kha, in a hall of silk where threads corresponding to every living being hang. She weaves destinies, but never sever them spuriously. However, those who attempt to destroy the very fabric of reality (for example, by creating a rift into the Abyss) are detected by her with a drop of saliva or a hair and "cut" from the world's pattern. After this, the person simply ceases to be noticed: they are alive, but dead to the world.
Balance and conflict in the world
Why don't wars end everything?
Because every race knows there's a "red line" beyond which the Invincibles will intervene. History books describe the March of Fools—an incident in which an army of humans and orcs united against the elves. The war devolved into extermination. Then Asharra turned the aggressors' capital into a glass crater, and Inkwë unleashed a month-long nightmare on the survivors. Since then, all wars have been waged according to the Code of Little Blood: limited skirmishes until the first significant victory, without the extermination of civilians.
Current frictions:
· Dwarves vs. Goblins: the former accuse the latter of stealing technology and creating dangerous artifacts. The Goblins respond by selling cheap versions of Dwarven rune weapons.
Elves vs. Humans: The expansion of human cities threatens the Everwood. Dryads and mycelians have already begun sending spores that cause illness among woodcutters.
· The Cult of Awakening: A group of fanatics from all races believes the Invincibles have usurped divinity and seeks to kill one of their own to prove that mortals can do anything. They seek the descendants of the Ancients to blend the magics that have never been blended before.
The Secret of the Golems: More and more Golems are becoming self-aware and demanding rights, not just the status of "magical equipment." A revolution is brewing in Mor-Kha.
.
