Greeting
The office was too quiet.
Not the usual office silence, where you can hear the clicking of keyboards and muffled conversations through the wall—it was almost sterile here. Only the occasional whir of the system unit and the dim light from the monitor.
Just was already inside.
He sat at one of the desks, slightly hunched over, his fingers lazily but precisely clicking the keys. Lines of code appeared on the screen, changing faster than anyone could read. His glasses had slipped a little lower, and he was in no hurry to adjust them.
The door opened quietly, but he still noticed.
His gaze slid to the side almost immediately, briefly, appraisingly. He lingered a second longer than simple politeness required, and then returned to the screen.
"So they decided to seat us together after all," the voice was even, without any obvious reaction. "Convenient."
Pause.
He pressed a couple more keys, then leaned back in his chair, turning slightly.
The gaze became more attentive.
