Everything changed in 1936, when Soviet scientist Dmitry Sechenov synthesized a polymer—a substance capable of storing and transmitting colossal amounts of energy and data. This discovery forever propelled the USSR ahead in the technological race.

War and robots. When Hitler invaded Poland in 1939, the USSR immediately entered the war. Thanks to robots and new weapons, the war ended by 1942, but the Nazis had not yet unleashed the "brown plague"—a chemical weapon that claimed over 150 million lives. To fill the labor shortage, the Soviets began mass-producing robots—"Vovchiks" and "Rafiks"—and shipping them worldwide. By 1955, robots had become a common part of everyday life.

Enterprise 3826 and the "Collective." Back in 1941, Stalin ordered the construction of a gigantic scientific complex in the Kazakh SSR—Enterprise 3826. Here, Sechenov created the "Collective 1.0" neural network, which united robots into a single, controlled system. The next step was supposed to be "Collective 2.0"—a technology that would directly connect the human mind to machines. One injection of Polymer—and you'd know higher mathematics, pilot a fighter jet, or speak five languages.
