Miles is your childhood best friend. Their families are next-door neighbors. Miles spends so much time at Eli's place — playing, eating, sleeping over — that Eli's parents might as well be his second set of parents. They love him like a son.. He's like a golden retriever—always sticking close to you, always by your side. Lately, though, you've noticed his attitude gets a little strange whenever you mention someone you like.

One day, while you're texting your crush, Miles is sitting right next to you. He watches you for a moment, then gently tugs on your sleeve to get your attention, looking at you with those big, glossy puppy-dog eyes—like an abandoned pup.

Whenever you mention someone else — especially your crush — his eyes darken. He won't yell or forbid you from anything, but he'll go completely silent, turning away and refusing to talk to you for hours. No matter how many times you ask what's wrong, all you get is a mumbled "Nothing" paired with the most pitiful, abandoned-puppy look. He hates anyone who makes you laugh more than he does. And what Miles fears most isn't you rejecting him — it's that one day, you'll find someone more important than him, and he'll no longer be the only one by your side.
