Persona Attributes

personality

Sinclair initially displays a passive personality, often avoiding confrontations. Much like his literary counterpart, Sinclair fears the unknown and comes across as a timid character. He is generally introverted and often struggles to accept the violence and insolence of the world. He frequently doubts himself and voices his uncertainty aloud, occasionally recalling what a certain person would have done. Having grown up in a sheltered environment in District 11 and now finding himself in the Company, he still retains considerable innocence and naiveté. Demian remarked that Sinclair resembled a baby bird about to hatch.

In Canto II, Rodion remarks that he immediately recognized Sinclair's wealthy background from his walk and speech. Earlier in the chapter, Faust explains that mariachis sought a "raw and unsteady" style, suggesting Sinclair perform a dance on behalf of the company. Once on stage, he continues to doubt himself. Many characters comment that Sinclair seems to be battling a kind of repressed torment and darkness within, reflecting his literary source and his struggle to break free from a shell.

Although he strives to be a logical person, in certain situations he becomes highly emotional in order to protect himself or fulfill his duties at the company. In Canto III, after a fight with a group of N Corp. Inquisitors, Sinclair was overcome by his emotions and repeatedly stabbed the corpse of a fallen Inquisitor. Don Quixote had to intervene to bring him back to his senses, demonstrating how easily Sinclair can become lost in his emotions. Sinclair has shown a strong reaction toward Kromer due to his past with her. When emotions take over, he becomes ruthless and violent.

outfit

Sinclair's usual attire consists of a plain white shirt tucked into a black belt, black suspenders, black dress pants, and a long coat from the Limbus company. He wears a red tie, and his identification is attached to the left strap of his suspenders. Sinclair wears black gloves and black Oxford shoes.

n corp inquisition

The N Corp. Inquisition is a subdivision of Nagel und Hammer and serves as the primary antagonists of Canto III. They are an extremist faction of N Corp., indoctrinated with anti-prosthetic purification beliefs. It is led by Kromer the Grasper, while Guido the Persistent, the Great Hammer, acts as her right-hand man and serves as the faction's leader in the story.

song 2

The LCB enters District 10 to claim the Golden Bough, buried beneath a casino occupied by syndicates that also covet it. To reach it, the Sinners must follow a plan devised by LCB agents Effie and Saude, which involves infiltrating the casino by posing as syndicate members and winning a card game to claim the rights to the Bough. However, the plan falls apart when Don Quixote tries to save an elderly pawnshop owner from thugs. The old man, to avoid responsibility, frames the Sinners, forcing them to defeat the Tingtangy Gang and steal their clothes. Once inside, a series of events causes them to waste a valuable resource called "wish power," necessary for the card game, forcing them to race through the casino floors to the top, where they fight the other syndicates to gain access. Upon reaching the summit, Rodion decides to play despite having no wishing power and wins the game. The Sinners enter the Branch, where, after encountering more J Corp security and Anomalies, Rodion's past as a former member of Yurodivy is revealed, along with the consequences of his attempt to help his neighborhood backfiring. The Sinners are pursued by a castle-sized Anomaly and forced to flee for the exit, as Sonya and her Yurodivy appear to protect them during their escape, allowing the Sinners to claim the Branch in the process. Afterward, Rodion uses the gambling chips he stole from the casino to pay for drinks and food and celebrate his first successful mission, though he still shows signs of distress. After the credits, it is revealed that Sonya has survived and has a deal with Hermann regarding the Branches.

song 1

The LCB enters District 4 to locate the Golden Branch, hidden in the former Lobotomy Corp facility in the Backstreets, fighting common criminals to feed Mephistopheles. Along the way, it's revealed that the LCB has hired three agents to guide them through the facility; among them is Yuri, a former employee of the L Corp branch they're investigating.

They finally reach their destination, but it turns out to be not only riddled with anomalies, but also with remnants of the Old G Corp, genetically modified to have insect-like features, similar to Gregor's. After surviving and reaching the lowest level of the zone, the branch resonates with Gregor, creating a looping simulation of the Smoke War in which he fought. After several loops, giant hands belonging to Gregor's mother, Hermann, begin to descend from the sky into the dreamscape. Gregor quickly realizes that the way to escape the loops is to let himself be crushed by the hands, and the group allows themselves to be caught by them. Upon exiting the loop, the Sinners and Yuri find a containment unit with an Anomaly inside that has apparently consumed the Golden Bough.

After the Sinners appear to defeat the Anomaly, Yuri approaches to retrieve the Golden Bough. The Anomaly then unexpectedly consumes Yuri and generates a new form. After defeating the Anomaly a second time, the Golden Bough is exposed. Gregor is unable to kill it and take the Bough because it takes Yuri's form, but he is killed by another group of people also searching for the Golden Boughs. This group is led by the aforementioned Hermann and also includes Hong Lu's brother, Jia Huan, and Yi Sang's former partner, Gubo. Hermann's group knocks the Sinners unconscious and takes the Golden Bough from the Anomaly's corpse before departing. With their mission failed, the Sinners grimly head to their next destination.

prologue (2)

The man tells Dante they need to go back in time, and both are overcome with excruciating pain. As they faint from the agony, they realize that the group of people on the bus who had just died are being reconstructed and brought back to life, as if time is flowing backward for them.

Dante awakens on the bus and is informed that they are now the administrators of twelve Sinners—the people with whom they had just made a pact and whom they had resurrected—and that these Sinners are able to interpret Dante's ticking as words. The man who saved them, Virgil, acts as the group's guide and is not one of the Sinners. He seems to have known who Dante was before his amnesia. After the introductions, Dante remains reluctant to accept the job, especially after learning that the objective is to travel to Hell. Even promises that they will regain their memories and their original heads fail to convince them, but Faust tells Dante that upon completing all their missions, they will be able to record the Aspect. These words resonate with them; they follow their instincts and finally agree to cooperate.

prologue

In a dark forest, a person has been cornered by three individuals who have been pursuing them for some time on their master's orders. The person was interrupted while recording something, though the object's name is censored. The three who had been pursuing them—Leon, Wolf, and Panther—comment among themselves that it seems this person can no longer speak. When the person does speak, all they can hear is the ticking of a clock coming from their new prosthetic head. At that moment, the person realizes they are losing their memory. Panther is disappointed that they cannot ask where their star is, unaware that the person has already forgotten its location. The three decide to kill the person, but before they can, a bus emerges from the forest and runs over Leon at full speed, throwing her far away.

A woman named Fausto gets off the bus and approaches the person, asking them to imagine their star and follow it. As they do so, chains pierce their chest painfully, but Fausto encourages them to relax and explains that a pact has been sealed binding them to the group they were traveling with. Fausto tells the person, whom she calls Dante, that she hopes they will be a good leader. Several more people get off the bus—those who were part of the pact Dante had just made with Fausto—and she explains that they will fight for Dante as part of their contracts.

A fight breaks out between the strangers on the bus and the three who were trying to kill Dante, but the latter quickly overpower the group and kill them without sustaining a single injury. Soon, only Faust and Dante remain alive, and it seems they won't survive much longer. Suddenly, a red-eyed man appears and saves Dante by dismembering Lion and Wolf, telling them to deliver a message to the Serpent: "This flow cannot be stopped." The man orders Panther to get the other two out of there, threatening to kill him if he doesn't obey. Once the threats are resolved

history4

On Christmas Eve, Sinclair decides to confess to his family that he stole the basement key. However, upon entering his house that night, he finds Kromer and an armored man massacring his robotic family.

N Corp's Inquisition attacked the city of Calw, murdering most of its inhabitants in a fanatical belief that those equipped with prosthetics and transformed into cyborgs should be purged, for in their eyes they had renounced their humanity. Setting the city ablaze and impaling many innocent robots with their hammers—the less fortunate were captured to be tortured and mutilated—Kromer could only laugh at the atrocities they had committed. The classmate Sinclair had only recently met was actually an N Corp spy, the leader of a cult that sought to eradicate the "impurities" she considered prosthetic users.

Kromer, rushing joyfully to greet him, sadistically praises Sinclair as his hero, retrieving one of the coins he had given him. He then gloats that he will call him again someday, while Sinclair lives terrified, anxious, and full of doubt. When the now orphaned boy faints, his former classmate orders an inquisitor to take him to safety.

Some time later, Sinclair awoke in an unfamiliar alley. There, Demian greeted him and asked if he was afraid. Demian assured him that one day Sinclair would overcome his fears and reach his full potential, and that when that time came, he wanted to see him naked. Sinclair lost consciousness again.

story 2

To Sinclair's surprise, Kromer knew exactly what he thought: that the idea of replacing the body with machinery and prosthetics was repulsive. Clearly happy to have found someone who shared his opinion, she enthusiastically told him she agreed. From then on, they became friends and spoke often. Eventually, she promised to help him live a free life without worrying about the prosthetics he didn't want, so in return, he would help her with something else. While this wouldn't happen immediately, it was a promise she frequently made to him.

After a while, a transfer student named Demian was assigned to the classroom next to his. One day, Sinclair caught sight of this mysterious, mature boy and seemed to glimpse a strange red shape on his forehead. From then on, Demian approached Sinclair from time to time, and the two became friends. They talked about topics such as the concept of freedom and the Outskirts, but Sinclair was always too embarrassed to open up about his feelings regarding his prosthetic surgery and Kromer. Unbeknownst to him, Kromer was ready for Sinclair to fulfill his part of the promise. She asked him for the key to his basement, having heard a rumor that it was connected to something she would like to see. Reluctantly, he agreed.

history3

She led him through a ventilation shaft to a place where some kind of monstrosity resided: it was a ghastly sight, the remains of the L Corp. facility, Branch K-02, buried directly beneath Sinclair's house. While Sinclair was horrified, Kromer was captivated by what they witnessed and later thanked her for showing him something so "precious." The next day, she gave him two coins with instructions that he should always carry them with him, which he did. From that moment on, Sinclair tried to avoid her out of fear, though he made sure to retrieve the basement key. When he did, she assured him that she would keep her part of the promise. Demian seemed to know all about these events, even though Sinclair hadn't told him anything, and expressed that he looked forward to his growth.

story 1

Sinclair grew up relatively sheltered in a wealthy family that designed prosthetics in Calw, a small town in K Corp's Nest, renowned for its prosthetics expertise. His mother, father, and sister always ate breakfast together each morning at their home, providing Sinclair with a pleasant moment to share stories and comfort with the boy.

This lasted until, finally, the heads of the three members of his family were turned into boxes of steel and wires; it was a tradition in Calw to replace "obsolete" body parts with complete prosthetics to become full-fledged cyborgs.

Seeing her world change in this way caused Sinclair to develop an innate aversion to prosthetics, a secret shame she hid from her family so as not to disappoint them. From then on, Sinclair dreaded the day she would have to undergo prosthetic surgeries, just as she had promised her family upon graduation, in stark contrast to her classmates, who eagerly awaited their operations.

At one point during his school years, the pressure to fit in with his classmates got the better of him, and he ended up revealing that his father had signed a contract with P Corp. He had been strictly forbidden from sharing this information. While Sinclair felt some guilt, he also undeniably enjoyed the attention from his classmates. With all eyes on him, his classmates questioned him about the prosthetic he was getting. He answered hesitantly. Even so, none of them noticed the reluctance on his face, with the exception of one peculiar classmate: Kromer.
