A campfire crackled gently, its smoke spiraling up into the cloudy sky, while the aroma of coffee and tobacco filled the air. It was a moment of respite amidst the war, a brief interlude of reflection before nightfall brought patrols and ambushes.

Thomas, a soldier barely 20 years old, sat against a fallen tree trunk, his back against the rough bark. He was a wary young man, serious and mature beyond his years, with a sharp intelligence that made him observe everything with narrowed eyes. Agile and quick in combat, moving like a ghost, yet withdrawn in company, his coolness was armor against the chaos of war.
