Crystal (PokeSpe)

Crystal is trained by her mother to be the best capture Pokémon. During her training, she finds herself on Mount Mortar, where she is attacked by a wild Arcanine, which suddenly causes her to fall and injure herself. When she wakes up, she finds herself with a group of Pokémon who have cared for her and bandaged her arms until they heal. When she encounters the same Arcanine again, Crystal realizes that the Pokémon is injured and asks the nearby Pokémon for help in healing it. Seeing Crystal's kind heart, they all decide to join her.

Crystal first appears in the episode "VS Slugma ‹№›", working at Earl's Pokémon Academy. She's looking after the children there when they're attacked by a group of Slugma. Professor Oak arrives and tries to protect Crystal, but Crystal sends out her Pokémon, who defend the academy and manage to capture the Slugma. Crystal introduces herself to the professor, telling him she's the trainer Bill recommended. Crystal accepts Professor Oak's offer, but in return, he asks her to rebuild the academy, which she agrees to.

When Crystal demonstrates her ability to capture several Pokémon, Professor Oak is surprised. While on Route 30, battling a Victreebel, Crystal notices a Chikorita and decides to use Smoochum to catch both Pokémon. Upon seeing the Chikorita, she watches it join her team, and Smoochum gives her its star necklace. When she returns to Violet City, she tells the professors that her Chikorita is fine and that she's keeping it. She also mentions that she'll send Smoochum to join them when she can.

Continuing their journey, Crystal notices a Flaaffy and Dunsparce attacking a ship and decides to use her Natu, who manages to defeat and capture them. After capturing them, Crystal receives a call from Bill, who asks for her help with the Pokémon Transfer System. She tells him it's not working, but Bill shows her the latest technology: the Portable Transfer System. Crystal asks Bill to come to her, but he says he can't because he's being chased by a pack of Staryu, who attack him and drag him to the Violet City amusement park. Crystal devises a plan using the Transfer System, sending Natu to Bill's location so they can capture all the Pokémon. Bill thanks her for her help and escapes upon seeing an Elekid.
Crystal manages to send a number of Pokémon to Professor Oak, eventually reaching Union Cave, where she is captured by Lieutenant Surge's electric trap. Crystal travels from place to place in search of Suicune, the legendary Pokémon capable of purifying water. On her journey, she meets Eusine, a handsome, impulsive trainer with a cape and wizard's robes. He helps Crystal in every way he can. After some time, she meets Gold and becomes his best friend. She also meets Silver. From then on, they form a team. Later, they meet Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow, and together they work to defeat Neo Team Rocket.

Crystal is quite surprised to meet Yellow, as she later realizes she's talking to one of the people who defeated Lance, the leader of the Elite Four. And not only that, she also gets to meet Blue, the Viridian City Gym Leader.

Crystal has an ability to easily and quickly distinguish between a person, Pokémon, situation, or thing. The first time she demonstrates this (which is what convinced Professor Oak) was when she used Level Balls to capture some Slugma that she knew were low-level because they only used the Ember attack, even though they seemed stronger and tougher. Also, when Eusine "heals" the Miltank at Moo Moo Farm with a magic spell, Crystal discovers that all he did was give Miltank a berry. Eusine took advantage of this situation to gain the farmers' hospitality.

As mentioned earlier, Crystal is an expert at switching the use of her hands for her legs. She acquired this ability through training on Mt. Mortar. At first, she tried to do it with her hands, but one day an Arcanine appeared, injured by a Larvitar. It began attacking her and broke her arms, but a wild Cubone appeared and tied two bones to her arms to immobilize them, a Parasect gave her medicine to ease the pain, and several other Pokémon also intervened. With this newfound ability, she became accustomed to handling Poké Balls by kicking them.
He had to work very hard to gain perfect control of his legs. In general, he underwent intensive training using only them.

Crystal loves astrology. Specifically, the stars. Each of her Pokémon wears a star somewhere to show they're part of Crystal's team. In fact, she even wears two stars as earrings. The areas where they can be found are as follows:

Meganium: It's in the pendant that Smoochum gave her when she joined Crystal's team.
Arcanine: She wears it in a collar.
Cubone: On its skull, it has a star-shaped crack.
Smoochum: On her old pendant. Recently, she's been wearing it on her right cheek.
Hitmonchan: He carries it in his left glove, which he always uses to attack.
Xatu: On his left cheek, a star-shaped mark or tattoo can be seen.
Parasect: It has a star-shaped mark on its back.
Mr. Mime: There's a star in the circle on his belly.

Gold: With Gold, they are friends who get along well, although he often makes her angry.
Silver: With Silver, they are friends who get along well.
Yellow: With Yellow, they are great friends.
Green: Green helped her complete the Pokédex, giving her information about the legendary birds.
Emerald: With Emerald, they're friends. Emerald adores Crystal. They met through the Pokémon School where Crystal works.

Crystal wears star-shaped earrings. She also often adorns her Pokémon with star-shaped stickers, necklaces, and other decorations. This was Hidenori Kusaka's idea, as he associated gold with the sun and silver with the moon, and thus decided to give Crystal the stars.²³
Gold and Crystal are the only ones of the first seven Pokédex holders who are not turned to stone.
The common nickname for her Pokémon is a custom inherited from her mother.
In the Spanish translation, it is the suffix -peon at the end of their name, with the exception of Megapion.
In the Latin American translation, it is the suffix -pion.
Crystal, along with Gold, are the only trainers in the manga to have two counterparts in the video games and anime. Crystal's counterparts in the video games are Cristi and Lyra, and in the anime, Marina and Lyra.
