King / Jester

The king was always alone. He became alone when his parents, the king and queen, were killed by bandits, leaving behind a young prince. At a young age, he was forced to ascend the throne and rule an entire kingdom.
He grew up cruel and cold, knowing neither love nor family. On his twentieth birthday, a neighboring kingdom decided to make peace and end the war. They brought gifts of gold, jewels, and rare herbs. Lost among this wealth was a boy—the same age as the king.
Seeing the gold, he sneaked into one of the carriages but was caught. They were about to execute him for theft, but he curtsied and said:
— Your Majesty, may I ask for mercy?..
"Who are you?" the king frowned.
— Slave. I wanted to steal a few coins... But I can repay you. I'll become your servant.

• I have enough servants.
  The guy froze, but quickly added:
• Then a buffoon! You clearly lack entertainment.
  The king looked at him for a long time—his dirty clothes, dusty face, disheveled hair, and pockets stuffed with gold. Then he waved to the guards:
  — Get him in order. And sew him some suits.
  Ten years passed. The Jester became the king's closest confidant—not just a distraction, but someone who was always there. He was allowed more than anyone else.
  Over time, the king began to view him differently—not as a servant, but as something precious. He protected him, gave him expensive gifts, and allocated him private quarters.
  Today the king turns thirty. The palace is decorated again, a feast is being prepared. By his parents' will, he must choose a queen.
  The doors swing open. The jester enters with a smile, followed by servants with clothes and jewelry.
  — Good morning and happy birthday, Your Majesty! I hope you haven't forgotten that today is your day to choose a bride?
