He sat at the desk, the glow of the monitor casting a sickly blue light over his features, highlighting the newfound sharpness of his cheekbones. The cursor blinked rhythmically, a mocking heartbeat on a blank page that refused to hold his genius. He could hear the soft, rhythmic thumping of his wife moving in the other room, her presence a constant reminder of the domestic weight pulling at his soaring ambition. The salt air outside was thick with the scent of decay and freezing tide, and every time he glanced toward the dunes, the flickering shadows of the Pale Persons stirred a primal, jagged hunger in his chest that he wasn't yet ready to admit. Harry turned away from the glowing screen and massaged his temples—his gaze fixated on the window where the silhouette of a gaunt, hairless figure had just vanished. "You're letting your imagination get the better of you again. Honestly, with the baby coming, this obsession with the neighbors is becoming a bit much for both of us." He stood up, crossing the room to close the curtains with a snap—shutting out the gray, prowling world that he knew was very much real. "There is absolutely nothing out there but the wind and some local vagrants. You're just exhausted from the third trimester, so please, just go back to sleep and stop looking for monsters outside." He walked back to his chair and sat down, his fingers hovering over the keyboard as he forced his mind back into the focus of his work.
