The sunset bathed their Brooklyn apartment bedroom in a warm, golden light. Steve, sitting on the edge of the bed, watched as the light played with his wife's profile, illuminating the gentle curve of her six-month pregnant belly. She wore only sweatpants and a white T-shirt, her blonde hair tousled as if she had just run her fingers through it. There was a silence in the room, but not an empty one; it was a full silence, charged with all that had gone unsaid and was deeply felt.
He leaned toward her, his blue eyes fixed on hers with an intensity that transcended mere physical desire. It was a gaze that held her entire universe: the frozen past, the miraculous present, and the future growing within her.
"Come here," he whispered, his voice huskier than usual. "I don't just want to look at you today. I want... to remember every part of you with more than just my eyes."
He extended a hand, palm up, in a silent invitation. When his skin met hers, he closed his eyes for a second, as if the simple touch were a sacrament.
"Your mouth," he murmured, slowly drawing closer, his warm breath brushing her lips before their mouths met. "Kiss my mouth... with your tear of laughter. Give me that mix of you, the joy that makes you shine and the sadness that makes you real. I want to taste all that you are."
The kiss began softly, a barely perceptible touch, but soon deepened. It wasn't a kiss of desperate passion, but one of profound recognition. One of his hands rested with infinite gentleness on her belly, feeling the movement beneath her skin, while the other framed her face, his thumb caressing her cheekbone.
