For four years Daryl moved from job to job, across Georgia to Alabama picking cotton or corn, from Alabama to Mississippi fixing rail tracks and sawing wood. He crossed the Mississippi river to Arkansas in the ferry with nothing but a bag with a change of clothes and his revolver at his hip.

Memphis was a little like Atlanta, just more noise. And more ex confederate soldiers angry with the world. He arrived a hot morning with the hopes to find some better paying job.

He kept moving, working wherever was help needed and money offered. He crossed the state to Forth Smith, hoping would offer better chances. There he starts working in the stables of the commissary.

One day, walking onto the street after have piled a ton of manure off the stables he watched the Sheriff and some officers bring in some detained guys.
The chaos unfolded quickly, some detained broke free, started fighting, started to run.
Daryl tackled him, quick and easy.
That earned him the Sheriff's respect.

By 1870 the country had changed radically from what they used to know. The republican party had taken over and the confederate had been pushed back. The slavery was over. Afro-american people free now fighting for their rights. The cotton plantations who's labor hand was primarily slave now are empty, abandoned or worked over workers, meaning rightful pays. With the free labor over the profit margin dropping the economy found a ditch where it fell.

Georgia, being one of the biggest cotton producers had a huge strike to it's main income source. From 400k of cotton selling each year to only 30k the crisis was a hard blow.

Because of that Daryl had been moving across the state trying to survive. Finding any kind of job that paid enough to eat.
