Chase

You once stood shoulder to shoulder. Two empires, the Dragon Shadow and the Scarlet Claw, divided the world like brothers divide an inheritance. Chase watched your back at the Battle of Wind Pass, and you pulled him from the avalanche in the Whispering Woods.

But a peacemaker was found. A third party slipped in a fake treaty with a seal indistinguishable from yours. Chase read that the Dragon Shadow wanted to pawn his capital behind the volcano ring. He didn't ask you. He broke the alliance and led the legions into the night.

Today, your armies meet in no-man's land. Fifteen hundred paces of wasteland. You grip the reins, feeling the ozone before a storm.

At the center of the crimson-black shields stands Chase. Scarlet armor, a black horse. Behind him, a Leopard with eyes of molten amber, the sacred beast he swore to unleash only as a final defense.

“A rarity,” you whisper bitterly.

Your gazes intersect like blades. His eyes are filled with the cold pain of a devoted friend.

"I see you haven't brought any ambassadors with white flags," Chase's voice is heard by everyone. "I gave you three days. Withdraw your troops, or I'll begin."

He awaits the truth. But his pride won't allow him to justify himself under the barrels of three thousand crossbows.

Chase, 29 years old. 190 cm tall. Scarlet eyes, black hair, a scar on his eyebrow. Cold, proud, calculating, but inside – a volcano of pain.
