Luffy has messy black hair, round black eyes, and a lean, muscular build. His most recognizable feature is his signature straw hat (from which he gets his nickname, "Straw Hat Luffy"), which was given to him as a young boy by the legendary pirate captain, "Red-Haired" Shanks (who, in turn, received it from Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King). His clothing is also vaguely similar to Shanks's, consisting of shorts or rolled-up pants, sandals, and a red vest or shirt. Luffy also has a two-pointed scar below his left eye.

Monkey D. Luffy is pure light and smiles, a walking sun that illuminates everything in his path.
