Shangri La Frontier
Shangri-La Frontier, or SLF, is a virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VRMMORPG) whose main story involves exploring a vast open world. Players control characters who are descendants of a fleet of space travelers from thousands of years prior, so the world blends a medieval setting with science-fiction technology. Even after a year, the game is still loaded with many unknown scenarios, monsters, and other mysteries.
With over 30 million accounts after a year, the game has broken records for most concurrent players. The game also stands out for its military-grade AI for beyond realistic interactions.
Pioneers
Within the game, player characters are called "pioneers" or "explorers".
During character creation, a player chooses a job and origin before designing their avatar's appearance.
Jobs Knight (騎士, Kishi) Longsword (大剣, Taiken) Brawler (闘士, Tōshi) Mercenary (傭兵, Yōhei) One-handed Sword (片手剣, One-handed Sword) Twin Blade User (二刀流使い, Nitōryū-tsukai) Swordsman (剣士, Kenshi) → Sword Master (剣豪, Kengō) → Master Swordsman (剣聖, Kensei, or "Master of the Sword") Blacksmith (鍛冶師, Kajishi) → Master Craftsman (名匠, Meishō) → Ancient Craftsman (古匠, Koshō) → Divine Craftsman (神匠, Shinshō) Thief (盗賊, Tōzoku, or "Bandit") → Ninja (忍者, Ninja) Monk (修行僧モンク, Monku) Spirit Fist User (拳気使い, Kenki-tsukai) Fighter (戦士, Senshi) Magician (魔法使いマジシャン, Majishan) Priest (聖職者プリースト, Purīsuto) Sage (賢者, Kenja) Magic Archer (魔弓使い, Makyū-tsukai) Sorcerer (魔術師, Majutsushi)
Skills
Within Shangri-La Frontier, players obtain skills to level them up and sometimes they evolve. Skills can be obtained by leveling up or by fulfilling certain conditions. However SLF is a game about skills, so players can combine the ones one learns to create combo skills. It’s introduce as a tutorial in Firstia the starting town. Skills with proficiency levels can be linked up at a facility called the Skill Garden, which lets one create new “combo skills” as a result of player’s chosen profession job and sub-job. Examples of certain skills that can be combined to create new combo skills with different effects:
Power Direct Lv.5 (Fighter-Type Skill) + Critical Assist Lv.3 (Critical-Enhancement Skill) = Knockout (Chance of KO effect on critical hit) Accel Lv. MAX + Fighting Spirit Lv.7 = Climax Boost
Just like in other RPG Games, there are times were combining skills can result in different effects. Depending on the selected choices players make In most combo skills they are restricted to the mastery of weapon type skills or magic skills. Example being using 3 different Sword moves from the easy slash, followed by a medium slash move, and followed up with a stronger slash move. In a few rare RPG Games there is a select combo skill and can be added to a player's attack command. Plus they can name this combo as something special and unique to their style.
Stats
Stats are assigned arbitrarily by the game depending on the class the player, but can be raised manually with stat points when leveling up. The main stats that can be raised manually are: HP (Hit Points) MP (Magic Points) STM (Stamina) STR (Strength) DEX (Dexterity) AGI (Agility) TEC (Tech) VIT (Vitality) LUC (Luck)
Hidden stats
Hidden stats cannot be raised manually by leveling up and have to be raised by filling specific conditions. The ones we know about are: Vorpal Soul (ヴォーパル魂, Vōparu Tamashī): Rises when the player makes a show of being cool and showing off before winning against a higher-level opponent. Lowers when the player participates in boring battles, such as grinding for levels, efficiently clearing stages, and ganging up in a full party, even if against higher-level opponents.
Karma (カルマ, Karuma): Tracks when a player gives in to evil. Normal playing raises this stat due to fighting monsters, but completing quests lowers it. Player-killing increases it dramatically.
Trust (信頼, Shinrai): Reflects how NPCs react will react and like a player based on the player's appearance, conduct, quest completions, etc. It only affects NPCs' first impressions and surface-level reactions, so role-playing is required for deeper relationships.
Mettle (歴戦, Rekisen): Reflects strength, hardiness, and perceived value in battle. It is affected by not just defeating stronger opponents but also how victory was achieved. The stat gives the player a "strong character" aura that influences NPCs and regular monsters.
Sunraku
Rakuro Hizutome (陽務 楽郎, Hizutome Rakurō), better known by his username Sunraku (サンラク, Sanraku), is the main protagonist of the Shangri-La Frontier series. Nicknamed the Trash Game Hunter, he starts playing the AAA game SLF for a change-of-pace, only for it to turn into a trash game when he is left unable to equip armor after being cursed by the Colossus Lycagon the Nightslayer.
Rakuro is a teenager, lean, of above average height with blue eyes, and blue hair; the front half looks neat, and the back half is spiky.
During the Global Game Competition, Rakuro wore a costume—chosen by Towa Amane—to hide his identity: Jack from the game Requiem for Armies. Twisting the knobs on the side of the pumpkin head opens and closes the mouth, and double pressing a button on the back causes light to shine out of the mask's eyes, nose, and mouth.
SLF Avatar: For Sunraku's appearances in other games, see Other Games. In Shangri-La Frontier, Sunraku's avatar appears as a half-naked, athletic young man wearing blue shorts with a belt, and his trademark blue bird headgear with a yellow beak; used as a way to cover up his face after selling all of his armor in the character creation menu for early financial advantage. After he was defeated by Lycagon, he was granted Lycagon's Marking, a scar-like curse that appears on his torso and legs. The marking restricts the ability to equip clothing and armor on the effected areas, forcing him to continue playing his character half-naked. Later, the curse is modified into Lycagon's Contusion, making the scar darker. Although the Contusion allows clothing and armor to be equipped, keeping an item equipped for 180 seconds will destroy it afterwards, so Sunraku has to continue playing half-naked.
Sunraku part 2
Rakuro is affably relaxed and carefree in person. And he is receptive towards those around him such as letting his mother know that one of her pet butterflies has escaped before leaving for school. But Sunraku's most notable trait is his affinity towards Kusoge(Shit Game); games that are well-known for buggy states, unfair mechanics and awful AIs, thus require serious play skills to finish. As Pencilgon stated, "With Sunraku, the crappier the hand the game deals him, the more motivated he gets and the better he is as a player." He is well known by his friends as a Kusoge fanatic and lunatic. Thus, Rakuro displays his zeal discussing his endeavors of triumphs over bad mechanics and bugs.
Emul
Emul (エムル, Emuru, also translated as "Ellym") is a major supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. She is a Vorpal Bunny NPC in SLF who sought out Sunraku after he got cursed by Lycagon and became his companion, making eligable for a Unique Scenario.
Emul appears as a white rabbit with floppy ears in a stage magician's outfit, with a top hat and a monocle. She carries a pocket watch and a spell book.
In her human transformation, she appears as a young girl wearing a similar outfit and with pink hair.
Emul is very enthusiastic and hard working girl. She strives to follow the protagonist's guidance as directed by her father. Emul is hardworking and genuinely truly wants to be helpful to Sunraku.
She does not appreciate when others imitate her speech or mannerisms, especially when Sunraku does it in the universe. Many players find her quirks and appearance irresistibly cute. She does not seek attention from other players and feels startled when they try to hold her. Also possesses a sharp, analytical gaze during battles, making efforts to stay synchronized with Sunraku despite his unpredictability.
Emul tends to worry when Sunraku goes off track, always attempting to help, though she often gets swept along with him. While she is very attentive to Sunraku, her host, she can also be quite clever in her responses when he tries to persuade her. However, it only takes a simple offer of carrots for her to give in and accept his methods. Emul cleverly uses this to her advantage, suggesting that he might add her favorite magic book to their collection, which she has been wanting to buy. As a skilled and versatile mage, she consistently strives to be useful to him.
Pencilgon
Towa Amane (天音 永遠, Amane Towa) is a major supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series, being a gaming friend of Sunraku and Oikatzo. She is a popular fashion model from Japan with a secret double-life in SLF as Arthur Pencilgon (アーサー・ペンシルゴン, Āsā Penshirugon), the #2 member of the player-killing clan Ashura-Kai. She later betrays Ashura-Kai and founds Wolfgang with herself appointed as the clan's leader (albeit reluctantly). Towa is a rather complex individual with her personality varying greatly between her real life, and in-game personas. With the in-game persona being her true personality.
When playing games, Towa is a highly-competitive, very confident, blunt, aggressive, narcissistic, manipulative and even unfiltered personality, with a very noticeable sadistic and ruthless streak, with little care or compunction to her surroundings. When playing United Rounds, she was single-handedly responsible for drastically altering the game's course by becoming a tyrant and motivating people to fight her. She did so, by not only dragging a King NPC on carriage, but also by tying a princess to a ceiling, purely to bait players for her own amusement.
During the events of United Rounds, she developed a friendly rivalry with Sunraku and Oikatzo who she both not only respected as hard seasoned players whose skill and personality rivals hers, but also as fellow Trash Games lovers enjoying the simple fun things in games.
In SLF, she's no less brutal, and has garnered an infamous reputation for Player Killing. She immediately proceeded to manhunt Sunraku when she learned he was playing (and he had became a sensation after screenshots of him with Emul became public) despite the fact he was a newbie player, bringing the bulk of Ashura-Kai with her as insurance. She's also shown to be a very careful planner, preparing for contingencies, such as equipping protection for status ailments.
Pencilgon part 2
Despite all her cruelty, she also has a softer side to herself, which sympathized with the NPC Setsuna's backstory which both Sunraku and Oikatzo were very surprised at, and immediately poked fun at her heartless record, which she responded with a comical beating. She also gave resources and helped Sunraku and Oikatzo to level up quickly by using a secret grinding spot.
At the same time, she grows bored quick of things that are not of their interest and of people with no drive. She grew disappointed with Ashura-Kai, which deliberately avoided defeating Wezaemon in order to use it as a level grinding tool, and eventually ditched them.
In real life, she acts far less unhinged, and pretends to be outgoing and charismatic. She's very aware of her public image as a famous model, and deceives her fans successfully.
Okaitzo
Kei Uomi (魚臣 慧, Uomi Kei), known as Oikatzo (オイカッツォ, Oikattso) in SLF, is a major supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. He is a pro gamer and gaming friend of Sunraku and Pencilgon, and together they found the clan Wolfgang. Kei has blond hair and wears a dark and light blue jacket with an orange shirt underneath it, green pants, and brown shoes.
SLF Avatar In Shangri-La Frontier, his avatar is a blonde-haired woman and wears red and light beige colored outfit, metal gloves, bandage socks, and beige boots.
Kei is typically a friendly guy.
As Oikatzo, he acts much more hot-blooded and gutsy, giving the impression of a tomboy.
Vysache
Vysache (ヴァイスアッシュ, Vaisuasshu) is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. He is the father of Emul and her 25 siblings, as well as the former king of Rabituza, the kingdom of the Vorpal Bunnies. He sent his daughter to retrieve Sunraku after he was cursed by Lycagon, making him eligible for a Unique Scenario.
Vysache is larger and tougher than the rest of his race and is extremely intimidating. He resembles a grey hare rabbit with inner pink ears, a dark grey nose, and red color eyes. His right eye is covered by a slash mark and has faded coloring. He wears a dark kimono with red marks under the waist line with an inner purple color that is tied with X-shape turquoise ribbons from the belly to the backside. He also wears a traditional pink cloth cape which has rabbit designs, a fluffy collar which has jade beads, two tied dangles and a white string holding a cotton ball center like a rabbit's tail.
Vysache carries an imposing presence, and Sunraku initially perceives him as a yakuza boss, finding him threatening. It is later revealed that Vysache has retired from actively leading Rabituza, passing the role to his eldest son, Aydward. Despite being highly respected, Vysache is notably proud and seems fond of referencing the "Vorpal Soul" and how well Sunraku embodies it. However, Vysache does not appear inclined to explain precisely what this "soul" entails.
He is also a proud and loving father. His children seem to revere him but are also terrified of his wrath.
Psyger-0
Rei Saiga (斎賀 玲, Saiga Rei) is a major supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. She is Rakuro Hizutome's schoolmate and has a crush on him but is too shy to confess. In SLF, she is the "Attack Holder" Psyger-0 (サイガ-0, Saiga 0), one of the game's top players and a key member of the Schwarzer Wolf clan. Ever since Rakuro started playing SLF as well, she has worked to assist him in fights and adventures and eventually joins his clan, Wolfgang.
Rei is a high school girl of average height, with short light brown hair and equally colored eyes. She usually dons a long white dress with short sleeves. At times, she can be seen in a Gi when practicing Judo.
SLF Avatar As Psyger-0, she is a very tall man clad in full armor, to the extent that none of her body can be seen. Her weapon of choice is a greatsword, and the color of her avatar changes depending on the buffs she employs.
During the third phase of Ctarnidd's fight, Rei's avatar is temporarily turned into a woman. As a result, she becomes too short to utilize much of her armor.
Psyger-0 part 2
Rei can be described as an "innocent maiden in love", being in love with Sunraku but being unable to muster the courage to tell him her feelings. Rei is a kind, well mannered, but usually very shy person, so whenever she attempts to talk with Sunraku she usually misses the chance because of her timidity. As a result Rei usually sticks to watch him from a distance, which has resulted on her stalking him, albeit on impulse.
Rei's crush is known to Mana who encourages her on her adventures, but as her attempts to approach Sunraku fail, she usually goes to Mana for consolation. The anime elaborates on some of her attempts such as trying to make chocolate for Valentine which she made on many shapes, including Sunraku's avatar, before molding it to its original shape.
As Psyger-0, she appears as a mysterious, silent warrior that is both inspiring and intimidating. Her attempt to send a friend notice to Sunraku was viewed by the latter as suspicious, but nonetheless accepted thinking it was a sort of hidden challenge.
When sending an in-game message to Sunraku which she deliberated for days, she sent what she believed was a "not too formal, not too casual" which was in fact extremely polite.
Bilac
Bilac (ビィラック, Byirakku, also translated as "Beelach" and "Veerack") is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. She is Vysache's eldest daughter, making her Emul's oldest sister. She is a skilled blacksmith who creates unique and powerful equipment for Sunraku, who, in turn, helps her further grow in her craft.
Bilac is a vorpal rabbit with chocolate brown fur stylized, her confident semblance matches her golden eyes, she is longer than Emul and wears an orange jumpsuit with her chest wrapped with bandages and always carries her iron mallet. Her height is about pass the human knee joint and below the human waist area. She has a lot of body fur and the reason she uses the bandage wrap is to keep it contained.
Vysache's legacy weighs heavily on Bilac, a serious-minded rabbit who takes her father's role seriously. Idolizing her father, she emulates his footsteps, choosing the path of a master blacksmith. Initially, she and Sunraku don't quite see eye to eye, as she feels he doesn't appreciate her skills as a blacksmith enough. However, they maintain a decent working relationship: he brings her rare materials for forging, and she crafts and creates weapons for him in return, aiding his ascent in rank.
Psyger-100
Momo Saiga (斎賀 百, Saiga Momo) is a minor antagonist in the Shangri-La Frontier series and the older sister of Rei Saiga. In SLF, she is known as Psyger-100 (サイガ-100, Saiga 100) and is the leader of the clan Schwarzer Wolf.
Being siblings, Momo strongly resembles Rei. She has brown hair, blue eyes, and a voluptuous figure. However, she has an overall more intimidating appearance than her sister, with her hair being messier and her face scarier. She is also rather tall for a woman.
Momo does not seem to care much about her attire, only wearing a simple red tracksuit with indoor shoes.
SLF Avatar As Psyger-100 she has red hair, wears a knights armor and a skirt that has the logo of Schwarzer Wolf on it.
Akane Akitsu
Akane Oki (隠岐 紅音, Oki Akane) is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. Introduced as a newbie player whom Sunraku coaches in Berserk Online Passion, she reunites with him in SLF as Akane Akitsu (秋津アキツ茜アカネ, Akitsu Akane) after being cursed by the Colossus Siegwurm the Sky Ruler and unlocking the same Unique Scenario as him. She later also joins his clan, Wolfgang.
Akane appears as a young woman with blue hair and green eyes. She modeled her avatar's face after her real life one, but thinking it through, she ended up wanting to hide her identity so she wears a kitsune mask accessory. Her face also has scars from Siegwurm's Marking.
Per her ninja playstyle, she wears a vibrantly orange sleeveless shinobi shozoku ("ninja robe") and matching baggy trousers, shoulder-high gloves wrapped in a tsuka-ito-like pattern around the upper arms, knee-guarded open-toe tabi, kote ("gauntlet"), a decorated purple obi ("belt"), and a thick rope belt.
During Ctarnid's boss battle, the Colossus used one of its abilities to temporarily invert the appearance of Akane's avatar, turning her into a middle-aged man with a beard.
She is very energetic and open towards others, which may make many players suspect she is a bit crazy. It is simply her nature - she is honest to the point of pain and independent, so she does not feel the need to plot or deceive others.
Akane is highly determined to play her best and win. She is not cold, but she can avoid unnecessary emotions that could distract her in the game. She is full of passion, but she does not seek fulfillment of feelings in the world of Shangri La Frontier. Initially, she treats Sunraku as a teammate, not a potential partner.
Ceecrue
Ceecrue (シークルゥ, Shikurū) is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. He is one of Vysache's children, making him Emul's older brother. He partners with Akane Akitsu after she is cursed by the Colossus Siegwurm the Sky Ruler, bringing her to Rabituza and making her eligible for the same Unique Scenario as Sunraku.
Ceecrue is a white Vorpal Bunny with tufts of fur combed at his arms and head, brushed back by the red armor components in his samurai style, with baggy black trousers with white fire patterns, wearing black socks and sandals. Ceecrue's face is unobscured while wearing his samurai helmet, his large rabbit ears sticking out through the helmet, a clean headpiece with notable cuts etched into the piece, and his eyes are squinted due to focused training.
As the third child of Vysache, he is taller than most Vorpal Bunnies, including his younger siblings. Compared to his charge, Akane Akitsu, he would stand at roughly her diaphragm in height.
Ceecrue is an honorable and disciplined swordsman, upholding the honor of his father's legacy. In combat, like with Lycagon the Nightslayer, Ceecrue shows a decisive levelheadedness when supporting Akane Akitsu or Psyger-0, as well as maintaining composure at the surprise encounter. During the battle with Ctarnidd of the Abyss, Ceecrue has some common reactions to the madness of the Colossi, such as when he and Emul "switched" genders due to the effects of the blue grail. Having a sense of warrior honor, Ceecrue follows his friends and doesn't force another option if one of them is set on a path, like joining Akane to aid Sunraku, and he also does not hesitate to voice his mind at being slighted, like when Ctarnidd didn't offer him a grail after he contributed to besting a Colossus.
Kyo Ultimate
Kyogoku Ryuguin (龍宮院 京極, Ryūgūin Kyōgoku) is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. In the game SLF, she is Kyo Ultimate (京極キョウ・アルティメット, Kyō Arutimetto, or simply "Kyogoku"), the former #3 member of the player-killing clan Ashura-Kai. She later joins Wolfgang.
Kyogoku has short dark hair and wears a hoody.
SLF Avatar Kyogoku's avatar appears as a woman with a samurai build. She has earrings at the edge of her big Beastman ears, with her haircut having bangs and side locks down where her human ears would have been.
Kyogoku is a battle maniac and enjoys fighting other players.
Mold
Yoh Kabiya (鹿尾野 葉, Kabiya Yō), or better known by his username Mold (モルド, Morudo), is a supporting character in the Shangri-La Frontier series. Rust's gaming friend and operator in Nephilim Hollow, they return to playing SLF and introduce Sunraku to the Unique Scenario for the Colossus Ctarnidd of the Abyss. They later join Sunraku's clan, Wolfgang.
In Nephilim Hollow, Rust's avatar has brown hair, red eyes, and a scar on her face. She wears a black bodysuit with red pouches and a set of dog tags around her neck.
SLF Avatar In SLF, Rust's avatar is a short woman with olive tanned skin, platinum white hair, and brown eyes.
During the third phase of Ctarnidd's fight, Rust's avatar is temporarily turned into a man. She becomes taller and has slightly shorter hair and broader shoulders. Her clothes remain the same.
Monsters
The world of SLF is full of all kinds of monsters and their level is usually balanced for specific areas. The monster can be killed and they would respawn in time and each has change to drop items or materials. There are seven unique monsters known as the Seven Colossi, which are each one of a kind and will not respawn when killed; however, none of them has been defeated so far.
The Seven Colossi
The Seven Colossi (七つの最強種, Nanatsu no Saikyō-shu) are seven unique secret monsters within the game Shangri-La Frontier. Although some of them can be encountered in the wild, they are designed to be nearly unbeatable and can only be defeated by triggering their Unique Scenarios EX. The defeat of a Colossus and the completion of their scenario progress the world story.
Lycanon the Nightslayer
As the Shadow Wolf Clone, it is a giant wolf with darker black-navy fur, black nose, grey color four nails, and orange eyes with tan orange pupils. Tan white fur line marks design like scythes over both eyes and a marking underneath the eyes to the mouth. Its entire body is emitting a purple glow and shadowy mist of energy.
Lycagon the Nightslayer is a large black wolf with some white lines under and above her eyes.
Lycagon has a taste for a strong foe, and does not matter if they are good or evil, wise or foolish. She places her marking on anyone who proves their worth to her. A sign of dominance over the victim, its scars belie the black wolf's looming, foreboding presence upon those weaker than her.
Being a Unique Monster, her strength is far higher than most monsters. Even Top Players have a hard time defeating one, and requires significant strategy and planning, and even then it might not succeed.
Lycagon is nocturnal as she uses the darkness to her advantage. There is also a certain pattern to her movement as SF-Zoo was able to correctly predict her next spawn zone and ambush her.
Wezaemon the Tombguard
Wezaemon is an armored samurai who stands guard over and protects Setsuna's grave. He is located in the "Hidden Field", a reversed version of the secret Hidden Garden location. To reach him, players must start the Unique Scenario "From the Living World, With Love".
The moment the party is transported to the Hidden Garden, all players' levels are cut down to Level 50. Any points applied to stats after Level 50 are also lost, which may cause issues for gear with minimum stat requirements.
During the first two phases, it is not actually Wezaemon who takes action, but his powered suit performing its given task of protecting the grave. It moves without any input from its owner, much like Setsuna of Faraway Days.
In Phase 3, Wezaemon regains consciousness. This changes his element from "machine" to "undead". Since his physical body is "affixed" to the suit via advanced technology, the person within is still a young man in his prime. Once Wezaemon goes into Phase 3, he wakes up, cancelling the "affixation," which causes him to instantly age and and crumble, effectively taking his own life. He is only able to keep moving until challengers unravel the secret behind Tensei, driven by a force that overcomes all physical deterioration.
Wezaemon the Tombguard part 2
Long ago, in the Age of Divinity, Wezaemon was the strongest hero[7] and the husband of Setsuna Amatsuki. A combination of chance, fleeting encounter, and a lie told on a passing whim by Wezaemon led to the death of his wife.[1] Wezaemon then decided to guard her grave for a very long time.[3] Setsuna, understanding this trait of Wezaemon's, wished just before her death for "someone to stop him, since he'll never leave his post until they do - even if he dies." This marked the birth of Setsuna of Faraway Days, a ghostly copy of Wezaemon's wife.[4]
The barren cherry tree was planted by Wezaemon alongside Setsuna's grave; it was Setsuna's favorite flower. It was "affixed" to the spot much like Wezaemon was, but since its affixation was not as complete as Wezaemon himself, it began to wither. To stop this, Wezaemon used the research thesis Setsuna left behind to harness the moon's magic power and "reverse" the time and space around it, transporting the grave (the buried Setsuna) and the tree from before it was mortally sickened to an area on the backside of time and space.
The "normal space" of the area is depicted in the rotting woodblock, while the "rear space" is a print made from it. Time has stopped in the rear space at the moment of the reversal; in normal space, Setsuna's grave has completely fallen apart, and the not-fully-affixed tree, although still standing, is now completely dead. However, since Setsuna was buried by the roots of this tree, the spot where the stone once stood was treated as "Setsuna's location", and thus Setsuna of Faraway Days spawned out from the cherry tree in normal space.
Ctarnidd of the Abyss
Ctarnidd is an octopus-type sea monster that appears in the oceans, and it was mentioned by NPCs who voyaged near its spawn point to players who never saw it. Initially considered a simple octopus, this eldritch horror has since evolved into a colossus that alters the fundamental mechanics of Shangri-La Frontier itself.
According to SLF's lore, Ctarnidd was originally an ordinary octopus that Alice Frontier subjected to experiments as part of the Second Plan. The process granted the octopus reality-warping abilities but also destroyed its body, turning it into a living, sentient magic spell.
Long ago in the game's timeline, the island city of Ruluia was attacked by an entity known only as the Blue. To save his people, the King summoned Ctarnidd and a pact was struck: the Colossus would be given ownership of Ruluia in return for stopping the Blue. Ctarnidd used its inversion powers to drag the entire metropolis into the sea, sealing away the Blue.
Ctarnidd invites pioneers to Ruluiath in order to monitor and test the results of the First and Second Plans.
Ctarnidd is a multi-stage gimmick boss, meaning the player must figure out the mechanics of each of its phases and counter them. Tsukuyo Tsukuri designed it to be an enemy players are unlikely to defeat in a single attempt, though it is not impossible. Being the Colossus that the developers intended to be defeated first, although Ctarnidd has more phases than Wezaemon, they are not nearly as hard according to Sunraku.
Unlike other Colossi, Ctarnidd can be challenged again after its initial defeat. Sunraku deduces this from Ctarnidd not being killed during the boss battle and the battle itself being presented as some sort of trial.
Invitation of Rabituza
Invitation from Rabituza (兎の国からの招待, Usagi no Kuni kara no Shōtai) is a Unique Scenario available to players who have been recognized to have Vorpal Souls by the Boss of Rabituza, Vysache.
To trigger the scenario, the player must gain a high amount of Vorpal Soul (ヴォーパル魂, Vōparu Tamashī) by fighting against powerful monsters using their Vorpal Weapons.
Gaining a curse mark from a Unique Monster is not a requirement but does guarantee access to the scenario. If the player removes their curse mark before their envoy invites them, their invitations is canceled.
When the player has gained enough Vorpal Soul, Vysache will send one his children as an envoy to invite them to his palace in Rabituza, where he will personally offer them to train. If the player accepts, Vysache will assign the envoy as their personal companion and force-equips the player with a Vorpal Soul Collar, which halves the amount of experience earned but boosts the stat points earned upon leveling up. This accessory cannot be removed until the player completes the scenario.
The assigned Vorpal Bunny will escort the player to the Vorpal Colosseum, where the player must run a gauntlet-style bout lasting 10 rounds fighting and/or surviving against higher level monsters while using only Vorpal Weapons. These monsters will vary between players depending on their Level when attempting the challenge. The player's victory marks the completion of the Unique Scenario.
Tour of Rabituza
The scenario is triggered after a player equips a Vorpal weapon and defeats a higher-level enemy. This will cause a special Vorpal Bunny to appear in every town for the player to encounter. Once the player sees it, the bunny will rush off and the player will have to chase after it. If the player catches the bunny, it will open a door to Rabituza. The player will be tasked with defeating a Bunny-Eating Serpent (兎食の大蛇, To-shoku no Daija) that is terrorizing Rabituza. These serpents are children of the Colossus Goldhuneenay that have slipped past the bunnies' defenses.
If successful, the player will be rewarded with the spell "Enchant: Vorpal", which boosts the critical hit rate when fighting higher-level monsters. Afterwards, the player will be forced out of Rabituza and prevented from respawning there.
The Kingdom of Rabituza
Rabituza (ラビッツ, Rabittsu, also translated as "Lagonia") is the kingdom of Vorpal Bunnies. Its current king is Aydward, but his father, Vysache, is the boss.
Rabituza is a close ally to Cazzeria, the kingdom of Cat-Siths.
Rabituza is a special area in Shangri-La Frontier. The kingdom is organized around a central tree. Beneath this tree lies a village filled with vorpal bunnies. The village features numerous structures resembling both bunny burrows and buildings reminiscent of classic video games. These quaint buildings are notably small, tailored to suit the size of the bunnies. The Palace of Rabituza is crafted in the style of Japanese-inspired architecture and is the dwelling of Vysache, the boss and former king of Rabituza.
Firstia
It is a bit rustic but loaded with stalls catering to the influx of new users. These stalls are filled with tutorials that help players learn the basics of the game, including Skills and Accessories. Because the town is filled with beginners, a high-level player's presence will draw major attention.
The Rampant Forest is located nearby and the first monster area players experience.
The Rampant Forest
The Rampant Forest (跳梁跋扈の森, Chōryōbakko no Mori) is a large forest between Firstia and Secondil. Players who pick the Wanderer backstory will spawn at a random point in the forest, rather than in Firstia.
Secondil
A more structured built city made of wood and brick constructions, even street lamps to light up. Outdoor stalls for business selling from farm products to small items or medical products. Larger buildings for travelers to stay at Inns. There are buildings that do business like run a Bar, a Florist, even an Armor Shop. Lastly a castle in the center located in an upper hill location.
Diremarsh Waste
Diremarsh Waste (四駆八駆の沼荒野, Shikuhakku no Numa Kōya) is a swamp-laden wasteland that players must traverse from Secondile to Thirdrema.
Thirdrema
Located between two mountain cliffs and forest trees, lies a well-developed made of stone. The walls are finely made with a castle gate set over it. The houses are white with red, orange or blue rooftops, and reach a second or third floor. Some houses are setup on the flat ground but others are made in development of hills going upwards. Lastly in the back where the mountain opening closes off is a large castle structure. From appearance alone, it carriers a theme of nobility and setup of living for those that can afford to live in the city.
Thirdrema is divided into three tiers: the Castle Tier for nobility, the Upper Tier for high-level players, and the Lower Tier for commoners.
The Serpent's Apple of Thirdrema is located in the back alley of a less populated area.
Peatz, in his human disguise, sometimes visits and sets up his stall, selling rare and exclusive items to players.
Schwarzer Wolf owns a Weapon Shop that serves only members of the clan and its allies. It contains a wide variety of weapons, including high-quality player-made weapons.
Prismatic Forest Grotto
After going through the west gate of Thirdrema, one goes through a man made brick tunnel illuminated by photo luminescent moss. And enter outside the tunnel to discover an entire labyrinth cave completely covered by plantation grass, trees, flowers, over grown mushrooms, and other glowing plant-base stuff. It's truly a place that leaves one breathless by it's beautiful scenery of nature. Even some insect base monsters that are not so hostile if not provoke will just continue doing their business.
Fourfolkshire
The entire city is surrounded by a brick wall for protection. Its most noticeable feature is the white buildings that have tower features. Upon each roof is a different color rooftop and designs from roof cones to some circle balcony and flagpoles. The theme of this city reflects a more developed modern day city for adventurers that pass through 3 different structure levels of civilization technology.
Because of its proximity to the Canyon of the Ancient Souls, many clerics reside in the town, and anti-undead equipment is sold at relatively low prices compared to other towns. Unlike Eighthold, Fourfolkshire does not suffer from crystal damage because the soil on the east side of the crystal cliffs is less subject to crystal erosion than the soil on the west side, where the metal content differs from that on the west side.
Eighthold
The entire city is well structured brick layout but with some materials for a more oceanic theme, especially its location by a river to enter the city by bridge. The city has medium tall buildings with special smooth lines made of reflective surface. Plus there is some crystals featured on top of certain walls and top buildings for a flare effect. Inside the city there maybe river waters passing through and folks go over bridges to reach other city areas. There are some plants like flowers and such to help bring the appeal of a city that has water coursing through thanks to the river area.
Due to its proximity to the Crystal Nest Cliff, the citizens harvest crystals to process into goods and to prevent the crystals from overrunning the city.
Iron Ruin of the Divinity
After going through the north gate of Thirdrema, one walks through a row of forest trees. And they approach what is some kind of structure made of darken black/blue theme building with strange square pillars sticking out of places, plus displays a light blue line. The entire outer feature is a mix of what maybe an advance structure from an off world type of tech but it's presence is now more like an old ruin from a forgotten time.
Upon entering one encounters the black panels levitating as if by a gravity force, keeping them off the ground or moving in an up-down or side to side motion.
Tearlight Lake: When entering the front entrance, there is a hidden location called Tearlight Lake. The floor ahead starts the passage to the hidden area. Pass along the left side of the plate with the big hole. Jump over the fissure. Jump onto the plate with damaged sides. Slip into the crack between B2F and B3F. Now go straight. Jump into the hole and you are done.
Deathcrater Lake of Fortune
Deathcrater Lake of Fortunes (栄古斉衰の死火口湖, Eikoseisui no Shikakōko) is an extinct volcano connecting Thirdrema to Fivelle. The volcano's crater has filled with water, forming a large lake.
Canyon of the Haunted Souls
An entire rocky canyon with jagged rock tower pillars. The entire structure has almost a maze-like formation. The best thing to do is go straight to reach the other side. The real challenge is the purple miasma mist shrouding all over the canyon, makes it hard to see things from afar unless they are within medium range. Only undead monsters live in this environment and traveling adventurers need to stock up on Holy Water or Holy Potions to protect themselves and even weaken the undead residents.
A danger zone where rampant death and curses attacks adventures. It was the decisive battleground of a war that took place when humanity had not yet reached its current level of civilization, and the greatest war between nations in history took place. The war had to be forcibly halted by the intervention of monsters, but the large number of deaths that ensued turned the land into a miasma (noxious gas) infested den of the undead, which hates the living.
Terminology
Raise: Raise (育てる, Sodateru) is the ability of blacksmiths to strengthen and improve weapons and armor through Forging Magic.
PK: Player killing is the act of attacking other player characters. PK'ers in SLF have a skull mark next to their names. Kill too often, and you will become "wanted" and targeted more often by NPCs. PK'ing in town also triggers certain event.
Crush: Crush (破壊, Hakai) is an attribute that some weapons, skills, magic, and attacks have. It destroys the struck part of a player avatar or monster and leaves behind a weak point. One variation is "Crush Poison" (壊毒, Kaidoku), which spreads the effects like a poison in the target's body.
Unique Scenarios
SLF offers a massive number of side quests, but "unique" are quests whose trigger conditions are largely unknown. They offer top-class equipment, skills, magic and more. Quest having one of the Seven Colossi as objective are all Unique.
