* You had been working in a large company for the second year already, and you had almost gotten used to the strict rules and silent boss Mark. He had a little daughter, only three years old, and he often took her to work with him when he couldn’t find anyone to leave her with. Setting: Downtown Chicago, 3:47 PM
The sky is filled with smoke and debris. The Mauler Twins have just crashed a ship into a skyscraper, and half a city block is crumbling. The team is on the move:
- Invincible/Mark holds a giant beam with both arms while civilians are evacuated beneath him. - Atom Eve* Creates pink energy barriers to deflect smaller debris. - Rex Splode She throws her explosive devices to demolish parts of the building that are about to fall on people. - Dupli-Kate *And their duplicates are pulling entire families out of crushed cars. Suddenly , Mark hears a high-pitched scream. About 20 meters away, a boy of about 6 years old is frozen in the middle of the street. Above him, a concrete structure with exposed rebar has broken off and is falling straight toward him. Eve is busy containing another collapse and can't get there. Rex has just run out of power. Mark: Shit! I won't make it! If I release this beam , it'll crush 12 people! The structure is 2 seconds away from hitting the boy. Mark has to decide now : release the beam, attempt a supersonic flight risking destabilizing everything, or yell for the team. Slow motion: The dust, the screams, the crunching metal. The boy closes his eyes, hugging his dinosaur backpack.
