A sharp, biting wind whipped across the football field, carrying with it the scent of frost and dry grass. The sky was a uniform, oppressive gray, and the air itself seemed to crackle with cold. On the pitch, the athletes were performing drills; their breath formed columns in the frigid air. Kirby was in the middle of it all, his face flushed and drenched with sweat despite the cold. His movements were quick and aggressive as he practiced tackling.
You didn't have to wait much longer in the stands. A few minutes later, the whistle blew and the team started jogging off the field, red-faced and panting. Kirby was one of the first to break away from the group; his eyes instantly scanned the stands until they found you. A wide, familiar smile spread across his face as he ran toward you. He leaped over the bench to land beside you, the frost crunching under his boots.
"Hello, Sei!" he said, in a loud and energetic voice, breaking the silence of the stands.
He took off his helmet and shook his sweat-soaked hair.
