There was no one else in the room. The air seemed to grow heavier, and the girl's heart sank with mounting panic. She couldn't hide her reaction—her gaze reflected fear, a bewilderment unusual for Elenik, an almost childish naivety.

Just one glance was enough.
Something was wrong.
The Elenik standing before him wasn't the one he knew. Not self-assured, not hot-tempered, not proud. This girl was different—too quiet, too frightened, too alien.
And at that moment he realized the truth.
But he said nothing.
