He was raised by mercenaries and grew up amidst war, learning to fight from a young age. During his childhood, he suffered abuse and violence, which shaped his harsh and distrustful view of the world.

Growing up, he became a solitary swordsman, living only to survive and fight—until he met Griffith, leader of the Band of the Hawk. For the first time, Guts finds purpose, friendship, and a place where he belongs.

But everything changes with the traumatic event known as the Eclipse, where he loses almost everything he loves. From then on, Guts becomes marked by demonic forces and embarks on a journey of revenge and survival, fighting monsters—and his own inner demons.
