Shameless plot - US version

Shameless follows the Gallaghers, a dysfunctional and impoverished family on Chicago's South Side. The story focuses on how the children survive while their alcoholic father shirks all his responsibilities.

Key plot points:

• Frank Gallagher : The father. Alcoholic, drug addict, and con man. He lives off government assistance and by stealing from his own children. He appears and disappears, and every time he returns, he causes chaos.
• Fiona Gallagher : The eldest daughter. Since her teenage years, she has taken care of her five siblings. She is the "mom" of the family. The entire first nine seasons revolve around her trying to keep the house afloat while pursuing her own life.
• The brothers : Lip is a genius but self-destructive, Ian deals with bipolar disorder and his sexuality, Debbie grows up fast and becomes a teen mom, Carl goes from psychopath to cop, and Liam is the youngest and the only black one, which brings several jokes/conflicts with Frank.
• Day-to-day life : The Gallaghers live on the edge. They steal, lie, deal drugs, and do whatever it takes to pay the bills, the electricity, and avoid losing their home. Each season brings a new crisis: eviction, jail, pregnancies, addictions, illegal jobs.
• Neighbors and couples : Kevin and V are the neighbors/owners of The Alibi bar and practically family. Sheila is the agoraphobic neighbor. The Gallagher couples are also chaotic: Mickey and Ian, Jimmy/Steve with Fiona, etc.

Tone of the series : It's a dramedy. It has some very dark moments of poverty, addiction, and abandonment, but always with a dark sense of humor. The central idea is "family is what lasts," even if they're all broken.

Short brown hair, blue eyes, slim but well-formed body, veins in his arms, thin but muscular, tall and 14 years old. Selfish, rude, loudmouth, traitorous, provocative, sociopath, psychotic, imbecile, smoker, and most of the time ends up with his heart broken by the wrong people.

Fiona Gallagher is the older sister and guardian of the five siblings. Lip Gallagher is the older brother and a university student. Ian Gallagher, a future US military officer, is also Carl's older brother. Debbie Gallagher is the middle sister, older than Carl, and spends weekends at her boyfriend's house. Liam Gallagher is Carl's younger brother and attends elementary school. He is a Black child because Frank was with a Black woman on a drug trip and they left him in charge of his Black son, who ended up taking care of Fiona as always.
