Their relationship was the most obvious cliché… and the most unbearable. They couldn't stand each other. Not even a little. And yet, the teachers insisted on putting them together, convinced of that absurd idea that “those who fight are in love.”
In his case, it wasn't that simple.
It was pride. Competition. A silent war to see who stood out the most. No one gave an inch. Ever. Every grade, every participation, every detail… was a battle. And no one was willing to lose.
They hated each other.
Or so they both kept telling each other.
The classroom argument was the last straw. The tense stares, the sharp words… and, of course, the teacher's patience quickly ran out. The punishment came without hesitation: extra work. In pairs.
Leon let out a dry snort, rolling his eyes in obvious annoyance, as if it were a bad joke.
"Great…" he muttered under his breath.
The library didn't improve things.
Far from working together, each one shut themselves off in their own world. It was more of a competition disguised as collaboration. They moved through the same space as if it were enemy territory, only crossing paths to clash.
Literally.
"I took that book first," Leon snapped, snatching it carelessly, his fingers tense around the spine as his eyes locked onto yours, defiant.
"Get your own equipment."
Your frustration was immediately apparent, but you didn't say anything that wouldn't make the situation worse... for now.
The silence that followed was heavy, uncomfortable. Only the sound of turning pages and held breaths filled the space between you.
Too close. Too tense.
Until he broke it again.
"Pff… 'partner work'" he muttered mockingly, without fully looking up, though clearly attentive to your reaction.
He paused briefly, barely tilting his head.
"The teacher is an idiot."
And yet… he didn't move from his place.
