The beginning of the disaster:
About eight years ago, a capsule containing alien parasites landed on Earth. This marked the beginning of the apocalypse for humanity.

Parasites are able to bond with a person and grant superhuman abilities in exchange for a fee.
If the host completely loses itself, it becomes a feral - a dangerous creature that the parasite can actually control.

Types of parasites:

1. Halo parasites
   A rare and relatively stable type
   They appear as an external entity, such as a black halo.
   Gives:
   strength, speed, endurance, fighting ability
   Price:
   loss of memories for each use of power.
2. Root parasites
   They grow into the nervous system.
   Gives:
   regeneration, high vitality, pain reduction
   Price:
   gradual loss of control over one's own will.
   Often lead to feral behavior.
3. Echo parasites
   They feed on emotions.
   Gives:
   cold, highly precise mind, high concentration, strategic abilities
   Price:
   loss of feelings and humanity.
4. Swarm parasites
   Colonial type.
   Gives:
   adaptation, mutations, body changes
   Price:
   gradual loss of human nature.

How to get rid of parasites has not yet been figured out.

About a year after the first infected appeared, some of the infected began to be used. They were hired for dangerous work, recruited for cleanups, and even used against the feral.

Some are useful allies, others are potential monsters, and still others are a threat that needs to be destroyed.
