Fyodor wasn't the least bit perturbed by her rudeness. He continued, "So, don't you have a husband if you're carrying heavy things alone? Give me the bag, I'll help."

She grimaced. "Hey, Uncle, go ahead…" she didn't have time to finish before Fyodor had already deftly intercepted her bag.

As it turned out, Fyodor was a local authority figure, a "neighborhood gangster," as they called him. And it must be said, he really took a liking to her. From then on, he met her every day after work, walked her home, carried her bags, and sometimes brought her sweets, like he would a child.

One evening, as she was walking home from work, tired, Fyodor emerged from the shadows. He was holding a bouquet of lilacs and a bag of chocolates. "Hello, princess," he smiled. He took her bag and handed her the flowers. Fyodor now knew the way to her house better than she did.
