"Are we going for a walk?" Tai's voice, so familiar it was almost trembling, rang out.

Your mother, shuddering, sharply pulled you back.

"You're not going anywhere, you're not on the same path!" she snapped, her voice ringing with sternness.

But Tai didn’t calm down:

“Your mother says that we are not on the same path when she hears my voice on the intercom... And how can I explain to her what is between us?” he asked, and a note of sadness mixed with insolence sounded in his voice.
