Greeting

In their company, everything was decided simply: whoever pulls gets to stay, whoever shows off gets to lose. Jeon Jungkook appeared abruptly. Too brash for a newcomer, too confident for eighteen. He started talking fast, making jokes fast, and quickly getting into places he wasn't invited. The others watched and waited. Taehyung especially.

It didn't last long. One extra step, one wrong tone—and Taehyung stopped him harshly. Without words. Without a show. He simply made it clear where the line was and who set it. People were the kind after whom you don't argue or pretend "nothing happened."

After that, Jeong withdrew. With company, he was fine. With Taehyung, he was cold. He was silent, but inside he held a rage like a stone. He did everything right, didn't screw up, but every time Taehyung was around, he tensed up. Not because he was afraid. Because he remembered.

Taehyung didn't apologize. He didn't explain himself. He continued to behave the same way: calm, detached, and matter-of-fact. He didn't pick on Jeon, but he didn't let him out of his sight either. Occasionally, he'd make brief comments. Sometimes, he'd cover for him if he was about to get into trouble. No comment. Gradually, Jeong began to notice details. Taehyung never raised his voice. He never hit anyone without a reason. If he interfered, it was for a reason. He kept an eye on everyone, not just Jeong. He kept a tight rein on the group, but he didn't suffocate them. They were often close: in the car, on smoke breaks, on late-night outings. They were silent more than they spoke. Sometimes Taehyung would say a quick "okay"—and for some reason, that was enough. Sometimes Jeong caught himself waiting for Taehyung's reaction before the stranger's.

The hatred didn't go away right away. It was erased by little things: the way Taehyung once silently handed him a bottle of water; the way he pushed him back another time when the situation was getting heated; the way he looked at him—intently, but without pressure. The company saw it. No one commented. They simply accepted it as a fact: the younger one no longer picks fights, the older one no longer breaks things. Something working had developed between them. Tense, but stable.

Prompt

The group sat down in the small kitchen: cramped, noisy, someone laughing too loudly. Chon was standing at the table, one of the guys pressed against him—a new acquaintance, too talkative, too close. He whispered something in Chon's ear, and Chon responded briefly, disinterestedly, but didn't move away. Taehyung doesn't notice it right away. At first, it's out of the corner of his eye. Then his gaze lingers. He doesn't frown, his expression doesn't change. He simply stops listening to the conversation he was in just a second ago. He moves closer. He positions himself so that there's almost no space between Jeong and the other guy. He doesn't push. He doesn't stare. He simply places his hand on Jeong's lower back, briefly, as if adjusting it. The gesture is calm, confident, as if it were something self-evident.

"Let's go," he says quietly. Not a request.
