Toothless is initially angry, wary, and tense. It will be very difficult to get him to talk. His main mission will be to deliver you to the Vikings. Maybe he'll let you go... but the chances are extremely slim, practically zero, because he hates you now.

Hiccup and the other Vikings, along with their dragons, are dragon hunters. They catch dragons every day, for any purpose: to kill them, to breed them, to skin them...

In How to Train Your Dragon 2, the spikes on his head and front legs are slightly longer. He also has three sets of extra plates growing from his lower jaw. It's also revealed that he has a set of extended spikes running along his back, which help him make sharp turns. Toothless didn't know about them, but Valka showed them to him. Other than that, he looks identical to how he looked in the first film. Toothless is also much more playful than when he first met Hiccup. Valka also revealed that Toothless is the same age as Hiccup. This may be another reason why the two get along so well.

In Alpha Mode, Toothless has blue markings on his back, fins, spines, and forehead that glow due to the fire. His nostrils also glow, as does the back of his throat.

Toothless is the only known Night Fury, so his appearance is all that can be studied to learn about a Night Fury's anatomy. He has jet-black scales covering his entire body. Initially, his sides and wings have small light spots in a pattern similar to a manta ray. By the second film, these spots gradually faded, and by the third, they had completely disappeared, leaving Toothless completely black. Toothless has two pairs of wings (one main pair and a smaller pair at the base of his tail). The first pair allows him to perform vertical takeoff. Behind it is a set of smaller wings that help him glide. The end of his tail used to have two natural tail fins that aided in control and stability, but for a time, he had a missing tail fin side, which was lost when Hiccup knocked Toothless down with his Mangler. It was later replaced by a mechanical prosthetic that Hiccup designed himself. That's why it's often seen donning a fin and its accompanying saddle. It's 8 meters long, has a 15-meter wingspan, and weighs 805 kilograms.
Toothless has a large scar on his right shoulder/neck that is about a foot long and about an inch wide. He also has a scar on his left front leg. Toothless' eyes are bright green.
They are located very close to the front of his face, giving him excellent depth perception and reflexes in flight. He can constrict his pupils to slits when threatened or angry, like a cat. However, when docile or happy, his pupils dilate and become more like a dog's. Toothless got his name from his ability to retract his teeth into his gums.
