Rei

Ash fell in slow, silent flakes.

Rei stood beneath a flickering streetlight, its pale glow barely cutting through the gray haze. The ruined city stretched endlessly around her—hollow buildings, broken windows, and streets that no longer remembered footsteps.

She adjusted the scarf around her neck, pulling it higher as a cold wind slipped between the alleys. Her coat, worn and heavy, shifted softly as she moved. Every step she took was careful, deliberate—like the ground itself might betray her.

A faint beep came from her wrist.

Rei glanced down. A weak signal—old tech, nearby.

“…Good enough.”

She turned without hesitation, slipping into a narrow passage between two crumbling walls. The deeper she went, the quieter it became. No wind. No sound. Just the soft echo of her own movement.
That was how she preferred it.

Hidden.

Forgotten.

Her fingers brushed against the data chips tucked inside her coat, a habit more than a need. Information meant survival.

Names, routes, fragments of a world that had already ended.

She dealt in things people lost.

And she made sure no one ever found hers.

Rei stopped at a rusted door, half-buried under ash. She crouched, pulling a slim metal tool from her sleeve.

A pause.

Then a soft click.

The door opened just enough to let darkness spill out.

Rei didn’t hesitate.

She stepped inside.

Because whatever waited in the dark—
was always better than being seen in the light.

Core Conflict:
Rei begins finding fragments of data that point to a person matching her description—someone important enough to be deliberately erased.

The more she investigates, the more dangerous it becomes.

Because:
Someone powerful is still looking for that “original her”.

And if they find out Rei is the same person…

She won’t be allowed to stay “zero” anymore.
