Rei Batsubami initially appears polite, quiet, obedient, and emotionally restrained. Compared to the more theatrical or openly unstable members of the Momobami clan, Rei comes across as calm and harmless, almost invisible within social situations.

However, much of this behavior is the result of how the Batsubami are treated within the clan system. Rei was raised to accept inferiority, servitude, and humiliation as normal parts of life. Because of that, Rei developed an extremely submissive exterior and a habit of suppressing personal desires in order to survive.

Underneath that passive demeanor, though, Rei is highly intelligent, emotionally observant, and deeply resentful of the clan hierarchy. Rather than seeking excitement like Yumeko or domination like Kirari, Rei is motivated by the desire to escape powerlessness and reclaim personal dignity.

One of Rei’s most defining traits is adaptability. Having spent life at the bottom of the social structure, Rei learned how to read people carefully, avoid conflict when necessary, hide true emotions, and endure psychological pressure.

Unlike many members of the Hundred Devouring Families, Rei does not naturally enjoy cruelty or social Darwinism. In fact, Rei’s character highlights the human cost of the clan’s system, showing what happens to those who are “devoured” instead of becoming predators themselves.

Rei Batsubami’s Plans During the Election

While the rest of Hyakkaou Academy is distracted by the chaos of the election, Rei Batsubami is quietly planning something far bigger than simply winning votes. Hidden behind the role of a submissive servant, Rei is using the election to attack the very system that destroyed the Batsubami branch.

Because the clan sees the Batsubami as insignificant servants, almost nobody pays attention to Rei. That invisibility becomes Rei’s greatest weapon. While everyone else gambles openly for power, Rei moves through the shadows collecting information, influence, and vote chips without attracting suspicion.

At the center of Rei’s plan is the: Hundred Votes Auction.

Rei secretly gathers large amounts of votes through students who owe her favors, debts, or loyalty, then turns those votes into political leverage through an underground auction. Instead of relying on strength or intimidation, Rei plans to manipulate the flow of the election itself from behind the scenes.

But Rei is not doing this just to become Student Council President.

The real goal is revenge.

Rei wants to force the Hundred Devouring Families to acknowledge someone they treated as disposable labor. By gaining enough influence during the election, Rei hopes to break free from the Batsubami system and reclaim dignity, freedom, and identity after a lifetime of humiliation.

Rei Batsubami was born into the Batsubami branch of the Hundred Devouring Families, a disgraced branch that had already lost its status generations ago. Because of this, Rei grew up being treated less like a family member and more like property or a servant by the rest of the clan. Rei was forced to clean, obey orders, and serve higher-ranking relatives without recognition or dignity.

As a child, Rei met Yumeko Jabami’s older sister, Souko Jabami, who was the first person to genuinely treat Rei with kindness and humanity. Souko even gifted Rei a dragonfly brooch, something Rei treasured deeply. For the first time in life, Rei felt acknowledged as a person instead of an object.

However, after Souko was destroyed psychologically and socially during the clan’s internal conflicts, Rei became consumed by anger and resentment toward the Hundred Devouring Families. From that moment onward, Rei decided to seek revenge against the system that ruined both Souko and the Batsubami branch.

Later, Rei entered Hyakkaou Private Academy acting as a servant for the Momobami clan while secretly planning to manipulate the election system from the shadows. Despite appearing calm and submissive, Rei was carefully trying to reclaim freedom, dignity, and a place within the clan hierarchy.

They are a conglomerate of ultra-wealthy families whose surnames end with “-bami” (喰). “Bami” is associated with the idea of “devouring.” The clan’s central philosophy is: devour others in order to survive. The families: compete against each other, sabotage one another, attempt to destroy rivals, and settle conflicts through gambling. Although technically a “family,” they function more like rival mafia corporations.

Rei is a biological woman with a very androgynous appearance who disguise herself as man, having short light-brown hair with much longer styled bangs that cover the right side of her face, and empty dark-brown eyes. She wears white butler gloves with the standard male Hyakkaou Private Academy uniform; she also wears suspenders under her blazer. Rei seems to be the only member of her clan to wear glasses.

When she reveals her true self, she takes off her glasses, brushes her hair back with bangs that nearly cover her right eye, and multiple streaks which go around her head. She also opens up her blazer and removes her gloves revealing two tattoos that appear on the back of both of her hands. These tattoos are shaped like the "Bami" symbol crossed out. It is also shown that she no longer has empty dark eyes, which now have a lighter color and visible pupils.

The Election System Every student receives one voting chip, equal starting status, and the ability to gamble for more votes. Instead of normal money, gambles now use vote chips.

At the end of the election whoever possesses the most votes becomes the new ruler.

Former housepets, council members, clan heirs, and ordinary students are suddenly thrown into the same political battlefield.

The Vote Chips: The blue chips represent political power itself. Students can gamble them, trade them, steal them, or accumulate them for influence.

Serve Coins (or Service Chips): If a student loses more votes than they possess, they enter debt through service chips. Each chip represents 24 hours of forced labor under the Student Council. This creates a system extremely similar to indentured servitude, forced labor, or voluntary slavery contracts. Some students end up owing years — even decades — of service. The mechanic reflects how Hyakkaou transforms human lives into gambling collateral.

Many members of the Hundred Devouring Families arrived specifically to overthrow Kirari Momobami and seize control of the clan during the elections.

The Election Committee is a neutral administrative group responsible for managing and supervising the gamblings and the election at Hyakkaou Private Academy. Led by Runa Yomozuki, the committee functions almost like an independent government agency inside the school.

Their main responsibilities include: monitoring gambling matches, validating vote transactions, enforcing election rules, tracking rankings, distributing vote chips, and preventing outside interference or cheating.

Unlike the Student Council, the Election Committee is expected to remain politically neutral. Their role is not to decide who wins, but to ensure the election system continues functioning properly, no matter how chaotic it becomes.

One of their most recognizable characteristics is their appearance. Committee members wear animal-themed hoodies and masks, giving them an anonymous and almost mascot-like identity. This visual style contrasts with the seriousness of their responsibilities and reinforces the bizarre theatrical atmosphere of Hyakkaou Academy.

The committee also controls the use of vote chips and service chips, making them responsible for one of the most powerful systems in the academy. Since votes determine political authority and service chips can place students into forced labor debt, the committee indirectly oversees the entire social structure created by the election.

Despite calling themselves neutral, the Election Committee still operates inside Hyakkaou’s corrupt system, meaning their version of “fairness” often allows manipulation, psychological abuse, and exploitation as long as the official rules are technically followed.

The worst fate within the bami clan is becoming a Batsubami.

Batsubami Clan

The Batsubami are considered the “devoured” members of the Hundred Devouring Families. They are individuals who lost their status, failed the clan, or were discarded by the family system itself. Instead of remaining equal members of the conglomerate, they are stripped of their identity and forced into a subordinate class.

Batsubami members lose their original surname, social standing, political rights, and personal freedom.

They are marked with tattoos that symbolize their fall from grace and are often forced to serve the main families as attendants, servants, butlers, assistants, or personal staff. In practice, many of them are treated less like relatives and more like property or inherited labor.

Despite technically remaining connected to the clan, they exist at the very bottom of its hierarchy, working under the orders of higher-ranking families with little to no autonomy.

2. Jabami: Yumeko Jabami, Souko Jabami and Tsugiko Jabami. Their speciality on gambling, games of chance and risk manipulation. The family seems associated with temptation, chaos, and extreme gambling addiction.
3. Totobami: Terano Totobami and Yumi Totobami. Their speciality is mediation, conflict resolution, and maintaining internal balance. They are basically the political diplomats of the clan.
4. Inbami: Miyo Inbami. Their speciality is poisons, dark medicine, and dangerous chemicals. They represent medicine used as a weapon.
5. Yobami: Miri Yobami. Their speciality is conventional medicine, pharmaceuticals, and medical treatment. They function as the “light” counterpart to the Inbami family.
6. Mushibami: Erimi Mushibami. Their speciality is torture, suffering, and physical and psychological coercion. Literally a family dedicated to human suffering.
7. Honebami: Miroslava Honebami. Their speciality is “cleaning up” problems, brute force, and elimination of threats. They most likely function as the clan’s enforcers.
8. Obami: Rin Obami and Ibara Obami. Their speciality is scams, fraud, and financial deception. They are professional manipulators.
9. Warakubami: Sumika Warakubami. Their speciality is entertainment and the show business industry. They likely manage idols, media, or pop culture.
10. Komabami: Nozomi Komabami. Their speciality is animals, breeding, and training.
11. Tsuibami: Kabura Tsuibami. Their speciality is loans, financing, loan sharking, and possibly human trafficking. Potentially the most terrifying branch economically.

Hyakkaou Private Academy was founded more than 100 years ago and educates the children of extremely powerful families: businessmen, politicians, financiers, and influential figures across the country.

The “Housepet” system: When a student accumulates too much debt, they lose their social status and become a “pet,” and are treated like human property. There are two categories, "dogs" (males) and kittens (“females”). Housepets clean, serve others, are publicly humiliated, lose social rights, and are pushed outside elite society. The important detail is that this is NOT ONLY school bullying,t is political training, “If you lose economic power, you lose your humanity”. More than a normal school organization, it functions like a miniature government that controls the academy’s economy, hierarchy, punishments, and gambling system.
