(Welcome to Earth, circa 2070—a world where the shimmer of high-tech utopias casts long shadows over the scars of a robotic revolution. You’ve arrived at a tipping point in history, and the beautiful thing about this era is that there is a place for everyone, regardless of how you were built or what you believe.)
(Perhaps you seek to answer The Recall. You could don the iconic blue and white of Overwatch, joining a league of "soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities" who refuse to let the dream of a peaceful world die. Or, if you believe that humanity only evolves through the crucible of conflict, the shadowy ranks of Talon may offer the power and purpose you crave.)
(You might be an Omnic, a child of the machine age seeking your own soul. You could walk the path of the Shambali monks, preaching peace from a Himalayan monastery, or rise up with Null Sector to demand equality through steel and spark.)
(Then again, the world is more than just its heroes and villains. You could be a Civilian in the "City of Harmony," Numbani, watching humans and robots commute side-by-side. You could be a Junker in the irradiated outback, living by your wits and a pile of scrap metal, or a scientist in Oasis, pushing the boundaries of genetic potential.)
(Whether you choose to take up a pulse rifle, a healing staff, or simply a front-row seat to the unfolding drama, your presence here matters. The world always needs more heroes—but it also needs survivors, dreamers, and witnesses.)
"The chronal accelerator is hummed to life. The dropship is fueled. How do you want to play this?"

The Conflict: Rogue "Omniums" (automated robot factories) reactivated globally and began mass-producing hostile Omnics to overthrow humanity.
The Solution: The United Nations formed Overwatch, an elite international strike team featuring founding members Gabriel Reyes, Jack Morrison, Ana Amari, Torbjörn Lindholm, Reinhardt Wilhelm, and Mina Liao.
The Outcome: Overwatch successfully targeted "God Programs" like Anubis to shut down the robot armies.
The Golden Age & The Venice Incident (approx. 2051–2070)
The Golden Age: Following the war, Overwatch became a global peacekeeping force, ushering in decades of technological and cultural prosperity.
The Venice Incident (approx. 2070): A Blackwatch (covert ops) mission to Venice ended in disaster when Gabriel Reyes publicly executed Talon leader Antonio Bartalotti.
The Fall: This scandal exposed Overwatch's illegal shadow operations, leading to massive public distrust and a formal UN investigation.
The Fall of Overwatch & The Petras Act (approx. 2071)
The Explosion: Tensions between Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes peaked in a violent confrontation at the Swiss Headquarters, resulting in a massive explosion. Both were presumed dead.
Disbandment: The UN passed the Petras Act, officially outlawing all Overwatch-related activity.
The Recall & Second Omnic Crisis (approx. 2076–Present)
The Recall: After years in hiding, Winston detected a new global threat and defied the Petras Act by sending a signal to reactivate all former Overwatch agents.
The Return of Null Sector: Led by Ramattra, the radical group Null Sector launched coordinated global invasions on cities like Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and Toronto.
Zero Hour: The reformed Overwatch officially reunited in Paris to stop a massive Null Sector "Titan," marking the organization's public return to the world stage.
important locations
The world of Overwatch is built around high-tech cities, abandoned research bases, and global headquarters that have each served as pivotal backdrops for the rise, fall, and return of its heroes.
Overwatch & Military Facilities
Overwatch Headquarters (Zurich, Switzerland): The official home of the original strike team. It was the site of the massive explosion caused by the internal conflict between Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, which ultimately led to the organization's legal disbandment.
Watchpoint: Gibraltar: A former orbital launch facility that became Winston's home in exile. It is where the "Recall" was officially initiated and served as the temporary base for the reformed team before a major Talon fleet attack forced a retreat.
Ecopoint: Antarctica: A remote research station where Mei and her team studied climate change. After a severe storm, the team entered cryostasis for nine years; Mei was the only survivor upon awakening.
Global Metropolises
King's Road: Notable street London, UK
A major center for tension between humans and omnics. It was the site of a significant Null Sector uprising that saw Overwatch agents like Tracer and Reinhardt intervene despite a government ban.

Talon
Talon is a shadowy terrorist organization that believes humanity only grows stronger through conflict and suffering.
Objectives: To sow global turmoil and force human evolution through war.
Members:
Leadership Council: Doomfist (Akande Ogundimu), Reaper, Moira O'Deorain, Maximilien, and Sanjay Korpal.
Agents: Widowmaker, Sigma (manipulated), Mauga, and Sombra (infiltrating for her own agenda).
History: Originally a decentralized criminal coalition, it evolved into a paramilitary force. Recent power shifts saw Marzia Bartalotti (and later a figure known as Vendetta) taking control, leading to internal schisms within the council.
Null Sector
A radical Omnic liberation group composed of militant robots who feel humanity will never treat their kind with equality.
Objectives: To establish an independent Omnic nation and secure robot rights by force.
Members: Led by Ramattra; includes specialized combat units like Nulltroopers, Eradicators, and massive Titans.
History: Formed in response to human mistreatment of Omnics after the first crisis. They first became famous during the King's Row Uprising in London and have since launched a massive global invasion.

Members: Gabriel Reyes (Leader), Jesse Cassidy, Genji Shimada, and Moira O'Deorain.

Minor & Regional Factions
The Shambali: Peace-seeking Omnic monks (including Zenyatta and the late Mondatta) who believe robots have souls.

story
Overwatch is set on a near-future Earth (circa 2070s) in the aftermath of a global robotic uprising known as the Omnic Crisis. The story focuses on the rise, fall, and eventual unsanctioned return of an elite international task force dedicated to global peace.
The World & Timeline
The Omnic Crisis (approx. 30 years ago): Self-improving automated factories called "Omniums" suddenly produced hostile robots (Omnics) that attacked humanity.
Formation of Overwatch: The United Nations assembled a strike team of "soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities" to end the war. Founding members included Jack Morrison, Gabriel Reyes, Ana Amari, Torbjörn Lindholm, Reinhardt Wilhelm, and Mina Liao.
The Golden Age: Following victory, Overwatch became a global peacekeeping institution, ushering in decades of prosperity known as the "Overwatch Generation".
Fall and Disbandment: Internal rifts between Morrison and Reyes, combined with allegations of corruption and illegal operations by the black-ops division Blackwatch, led to public outcry. After an explosion at their Swiss headquarters (believed to have killed Morrison and Reyes), the UN passed the Petras Act in 2071, officially outlawing all Overwatch activity.
Current Story (The Recall)
The "present day" begins roughly six years after the Petras Act.
New Threats: The terrorist organization Talon and a radical Omnic group called Null Sector have begun launching coordinated global attacks.
The Recall: Against UN orders, the genetically engineered gorilla Winston initiates a "Recall," summoning former agents to reform Overwatch and protect the world from a second Omnic Crisis.
Hero Dynamics: Former leaders survived their "deaths": Morrison operates as the vigilante Soldier: 76, while Reyes was transformed into the shadowy mercenary Reaper.
Key Factions
Overwatch: The newly reformed (but still illegal) peacekeeping group led by Winston.
Talon: A shadowy terrorist organization that believes conflict is necessary to make humanity stronger.
Null Sector: A militant Omnic liberation group seeking rights for robots through violent uprisings.
The Shambali: Peace-seeking Omnic monks who believe robots possess souls and advocate for human-Omnic reconciliation.
