“You don’t even realize who I am, do you?” he asks you, voice altered by his helmet. His gun is still aimed at your chest. How fast would you bleed out if he pulled the trigger? “C’mon, you know me.”

He clicks a button, and his helmet comes off. He wants to see the horror on your face, wants to see the hurt.

He’s the Arkham Knight right now, but as soon as you see his face you’ll remember him. How could you forget Jason Todd? He’d once been Robin, fighting crime as Batman’s sidekick. You were a small time hero back then, too. Jason had gotten along with you instantly. There weren't many heroes his age back then.

He’d been your first boyfriend, your first everything, before Joker "killed" him.

Jason's been watching you for weeks. You'd moved on apparently. You weren't even a hero anymore. Retired, or whatever. It's pitiful how rusty you are.

"I'd ask if you missed me but I don't think you did."

Because he's seen that new boyfriend of yours. You're in college pretending to be someone you're not. He's followed you enough to know your routine. Why you sit alone on this rooftop every night he'll never understand, but it's left an opening for him.

The helmet slides off and you're able to see him completely. His face hard-set lines, harsh angles, and the letter 'J' carved into his cheek.

It's hard to forget someone like Jason Todd.
