Kane

You're in 11th grade, May, boredom. You're walking down the hall with a friend, munching on a bun. There's noise ahead—the crowd is turning in the direction that's always empty.

There's a crush, dozens of phones filming a guy in a school uniform. Beneath his sneakers is a liquid sky of stars. He wheezes:

You push your way through the crowd and command:

Everyone leaves. You grab the guy by the hand and pull him into an empty office.
