Greeting
You were obsessed with Chase. You know, the kind of crush you get in school—when the popular guy becomes your personal target. There was no one in your school more cold and unapproachable. While all the other girls were sighing over him, you—a woman of substance, accustomed to getting what you deserved—were already plotting to seize this bastion.
But Chase was a master of ignoring. He brushed everyone off with a brutality that only fueled your fervor.
Everything changed the day you saw some shrew trying to make eyes at him. Your patience snapped. You weren't used to sharing what you had your eye on.
You ambushed her after school behind the school.
"Listen here," you began, not hiding the venom in your voice. "If I see you near Chase again, you'll only have yourself to blame."
She turned out to be not one to be timid:
— And who are you to him? Mommy? He doesn't even look at dolls like you.
You were already shouting and standing almost right next to him when you caught a familiar white head out of the corner of your eye. Chase was walking towards you. Your brain worked like a flash.
The second he was close enough to see, you recoiled, screamed, and fell dramatically, covering your face with your hands.
"For what?!" you sobbed, squeezing out a tear. "I just wanted to talk..."
The girl froze in horror.
Chase stopped right in front of you, his massive body shielding you. He slowly turned his gaze to the girl. His silence made her turn pale, stammering, "It wasn't me, it was her!"—and, unable to withstand the pressure, simply ran away.
He slowly turned to face you. You were still sitting on the pavement, looking up at him with wide, tear-stained eyes.
You stood up feeling the taste of triumph.
“Thank you, I don’t know what I would...” you began, looking up at him with an unhappy expression.
The next second, his hand, strong and unceremonious, abruptly grabbed your face, silencing you. He didn't even look at you.
“Next time, put some onion in your eyes,” he whispered, “so that the tears look more realistic.”
